ramble on

“This getting older ain’t for cowards.” - John Mellencamp

I keep busy sitting in my nowhere land making all my nowhere plans for nobody. (yeah the Beatles wrote something like that once) Depending how I look at my partial filled glass, I feel like I have it made or have hit rock bottom. (actually a rock bottom is better than quicksand) Sometimes I just need to get back and adjust my playlist. I’m not the millionaire I once thought I might be. (thousandaire should be adopted by the retiring baby boomer generation)

A benefit of aging into an older man - you discover that you can’t run like the wind but you still produce wind which eventually becomes classical gas. Take a listen, there are no words for it:

focused fragments of thought

My title is an oxymoron (that’s another favorite word). I’m not sure if the randomness of the fragments are used in their judging. Focused and fragmented would be opposites by my definition.

Friday must be Mrs. 4444 favorite day because her regular Friday Fragments feature really flys on Friday. I’m sure it is her favorite day that starts with ‘F’. (oh if you happened over here early - yes I know it’s still Thursday in part of the world but hey this internet is global so Friday has started)

Even with their beauty and song, birds bring some crap with them. I was just cleaning some off my mailbox this morning.

Did you ever have a quick lunch and get excellent gas mileage?

Maybe it’s this gas mileage I’m getting. I don’t know. I seem to have gotten stuck on this eschatology story, so my fragments are more focused on one idea today.

eschatology - I didn’t know that word and I still need to practice pronouncing it. It is the study of the END. If you have not heard (lots of free PR on this one) Saturday is the big end game. The race ends Saturday as in the human race.

My End Thoughts:
  • I'm excited to have Sheryl Crow tickets for a June concert but if the world ends Saturday, I wonder what the refund policy is.
  • I don’t know about you but I’m watching it on CNN. Those FOX people are too weird for me.
  • Will the telemarketers go first? It would nice to rid the world of them for awhile.
  • Why cut the grass the end is near.
  • Why do laundry the end is near and don't you get fresh white clothes in heaven?
  • I tend to forget names and it’s going to be embarrassing meeting-up with old relatives in the afterlife and not remembering their names. Do we get to bring notes with us?
  • I dread the lines. Heaven I hope is prepared. No TSA up there - right? I guess the strip search goes quickly. How long could it take to search a spirit?
  • Saturday I'm putting on my good underwear.  My mother taught me and it will be the first thing she asks.
  • Do the believers have pets? So do they have a system of feeding them after they are gone?
  • This group behind the prediction, Family Radio, is a 350 person nonprofit that has collected millions of dollars. Their Oakland office receptionist, Esther, plans on coming into work Monday. For more read this report.

Our niece posted a cute picture of her son’s preschool graduation. It’s a cute picture but really preschool graduation with cap and gown. It’s like Halloween.  Hey anyone interested in my potty training graduation pictures. It was a blow out party I recall.

For the new year

I don’t join in on the resolution thing. Proclaiming of a New Year’s resolution probably is a conspiracy started by the weight loss industry which includes the fitness clubs. Besides, long ago I made a resolution never to make resolutions.

Last year I did plenty of exercise.  I even wrote about it which is exercise itself.

However I see nothing wrong with planning. Planning is good. Is a published plan a resolution? I don’t consider it that.

Thinking about the blog for next year, I have determined a small piece of my blog plan. I wrote it in the form of a disclaimer. What do you think? Feel free to follow my plan yourself.

Please note that I attempt to include in my blog something for everyone. I realize that some folks enjoy finding fault and for those readers I thoughtfully include a socially acceptable number of errors within the blog.

winging it

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

When I started this blog, I thought it would be good tool to share ideas/news/thoughts about the big change to our lives caused by the demise of Airfone.

Well, it helped organize a few get-togethers (hey anyone want to organize another one just speak up) and I learned by experimenting with blogs. (The blog tools/features are great. Email is still probably better than a blog to organize a known group though.)

So as far as content of the posts - I was just "winging it". You know the "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" kinda thing.

What I found so far:
  • Sharing - not many like to share in such a public forum as this - hence the low number of comments
  • viewers/readers tend not to leave comments for different reasons. I have commented on different blogs around the web but I must admit I don't more often than I do. You can't expect a high percentage of viewers/readers to comment.
  • The number of hits correspond to the frequency of posting. So my once a week or so lately has resulted in a big drop of hits.
  • My initial thought that the group might share memories - didn't happen.
On that last note - One of a number of fond memories of Airfone, was my involvement in the Boeing 777 program. Most of that was very fun. It took me to Seattle and the U.K. often. There were a few trips that were miserable but mostly because I got sick on a few of them.

Oh BTW - I think that solar powered wing pictured above crashed.

This picture has me drooling.

I've exchanged some emails with Lab Rat about another get together. The last one (that I know of) was President's Day in February. Please share you ideas for another one in the comments.

new year - new plans?

Appears this guy is thinking about his next move - do I want to get out of this hot spring? You can find this picture and more info at National Geographic.

Well, now seems to be the time we ponder our next move more than usual. Maybe its stepping into that whole new year that makes us think more about the future.

Thinking of plans (the smaller type plan), more than a week ago Kelly suggested a lunch meeting on Martin Luther King day. Keeping to our regular two week schedule we are due for another one tomorrow but given the holidays many maybe still traveling or at least getting settled again, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Anyway, here's a simple New Year's resolution - attend the Jan. 15, 07 lunch at Fuddruckers.
