Many of you reading this still do. Thank you. But some of the funny, sarcastic, witty comment-writers don’t share their creativity here that much anymore. Did I get spoiled? They probably just got busier and some stopped blogging.
I sound like I’m complaining. Well maybe a little. Really my point is just to say I really enjoy ALL comments and the witty/funny/thoughtful ones are real gems.
I could name a few of the past bloggers that have shared gems of their thoughts in my comment section but I won’t. But I want to share the one comment which prompted this post. It’s a good example too. This one was shared on a Carly Simon themed post titled, “you probably think this post is about you”.
Now what is being shared can be thoughtful, inspiring, hurtful, anger, humor, or any assortment of emotions and opinions. I like the positive and/or humorous ones the best. You probably do too. A comment is the blogosphere’s version of a smile or friendly glance which is better than no comment. But we don't always want to smile.
“You picture is pretty safe to send, maybe you should run for office. You're so sane, you probably don't think this comment's about you.”
Comments = sharing

Share a smile, a word, a thought, or just an emoticon.

We are all too wrapped up in thinking about Thanksgiving and Black Friday and then Christmas and what all that means to worry about commenting anything at all. Or is it just me?
thanks for sharing an answer.
I don't know if you read my blog back last year but here's an opinion on shopping
http://afcsoac.blogspot.com/2010/11/shopping-games-2010.html
I do wish more people could lighten-up around the Holidays but even I feel some stress while I wonder why I'm stressed. The stress seems to rub off on people.
all the best
We are actually *mostly* done with Christmas Shopping. Stress free if you do it a little at a time.
Also, you mentioned on my blog that you didn't know about the trip that I was talking about in the post you commented on. Well, last year Joey was referred to Make A Wish and after all the paper work was completed he qualified for a Wish. His wish was granted in October. He wished to go to DisneyWorld.
He's had TONS of medical problems since birth and we are still nowhere near being out of the woods. All of his medical problems are lifelong ailments. **AND** it is important to add that just because he was granted a wish through Make A Wish does not mean what he has will make him die. It just means that he has a handful of doctors that he sees at least yearly and some we see a lot more frequently...and lots of surgeries.
thanks for explaining. It is very nice that organizations like that grant wishes because I know these types of illnesses impact the whole family. There is a neighbor that had a very bad time when he was 5 or 6. He made it through the treatments and also had a wish type thing. He doing ok to the best of my knowledge. I know you would trade the whole wish thing for a healthy kid. Wish you and your whole family the best.
Life does seem to get busier and busier theses days, I'm on the computer less and less..
I've lost my blog mojo .....
Okay, I decided I'd take pity on you and return. ;-)
blog mojo - that's a good one. It does seem to run in cycles. Thanks sharing some mojo here.
Oh pity sure I'll take some. Itty bitty pity thanks
I felt sorry for, you, Bill. So this is your official comment. But I got nothing. Nada. I think I am playing Angry Birds too much lately. Brain cells are dying off. . . Kindle reading too affects my blog time. And lately, dang it, I have been hanging out with real people, instead of the virtual world. That's last one is a killer, I know, but 'tis true. I gotta get my priorities straight. Virtual friends versus working and spending time with other people in Tegucigalpa? I don't know.
I'm only that vain when I'm kidding. ;-)
I hope things pick up for you. I know as for me, I've been having major sinus and allergy issues which is messing up my focus. Which is keeping me from posting and commenting as much as I used to.
I think this would make a good post. Why are people commenting less and less? Video games? Smartphones? Facebook????? What is it? I hope everyone is not interacting with the real people in their lives as much as I am. It would destroy blogging as we know it now. Sad but true.
I do wish you good health and I hate it went I blow snot on the screen.
Real people - yes I understand but bloggers are real people. Ok having real face-to-face in the same physical space that is much better (most of the time depending what I ate for lunch). I was digging around some old posts for what I don't remember now and re-read that witty comment that played into the whole post. Those great comments still come in at times. But the longer you blog the more likely you will find favorite followers/bloggers just dropping out. Change is constant and blogging is no different.
thanks - two comments - I owe you.
At the risk of leaving yet another non-witty comment, I will say that I absolutely treasure my readers who leave comments. Any comment, as long as it's not an attack, is fine. Even the ones that feel like brief friendly waves or nods. It's the way I know I'm in a community and I really value that.
Haven't you learned to shop online yet Rebecca. No worries.
I will comment here from now on...... and I will comment naked..... you've been warned!
Sincerely,
Creepy Comment Guy
I agree. Don't you wish all the visitors left even a brief hello? But it's even more fun when you read one that gives you a laugh. Your comments here are great BTW. You don't need to be witty. You are very thoughtful in what you write. (ok you can take your boots off now ;) thanks
wow - was not expecting that
as long as you don't give any credit info to Bearman.
I've noticed an up and down on my blog, but then, I've fallen behind big time on my blog reading, and I try to remember other people do, too!
*sigh* i'm sorry, sugar! can you find it in your heart to forgive me? ;) xoxoxoxo
You made me feel that my comments were all boring and dull :( I struggle to comment sometimes (but never at your site). I see people leave wonderful comments at my posts but I am lost for words when it comes to leaving a good comment, let alone a funny one.
I enjoyed the Neil Diamond / Barbara Streisand.
I'm sorry if I gave you that impression. No that is not the case. As I wrote above, I do enjoy all comments. I enjoy all cookies but a few types do taste better to me. Yes the funny ones are a favorite but I remember many of yours were very thoughtful which is more than I can ask for. Of course, I have written a few posts that were not funny and a witty comment would not be right. So don't struggle and not leave one. A simple liked it is very welcomed and I do appreciate you sharing your time with me. thanks
Leaving comments do eat up your time. Thanks for sharing your answer here which I also think causes people to drop out of blogging. Your comment just gave me a thought. The timing of your post probably is a big factor in how popular it appears. If I look back at posts and find one with a small number of comments, I should think about when it was posted.
thanks
You know, if you are waiting for me to sing this song to you before you throw me a comment then you'll be waiting a long time. Thanks for stopping by and it's great that I got you to throw me a sugar comment.
We see the same sort of thing on Madhatters. A lot of our regular commentators who got to know each other through leaving comments on our site have since left us and now interact with each other on Facebook instead.
Others submit comments every day for weeks or months and then just suddenly disappear with no explanation.
A trend I've noticed on our site is that we are getting fewer comments but more people clicking the 'like' button on a post. It's not as good as a comment but at least it's a sign that people like what we are putting up
I wonder if part of the problem is the newer technologies that people are using to read blogs. I know I've mentioned this before, but I often use the Google Reader app on my phone. Makes it easy to read blogs, but not so easy to comment on them. I usually intend to come back later and post a (hopefully witty and/or insightful) comment, but then life gets in the way and I get sidetracked and forget.
Added: This post is a perfect example, because it took me a good 48 hours to get back here to comment!
Good point I didn't think of that. Since I'm smartphone-less and happy to be that way, I never thought of this. It's great that you did remember to come back and share this. I don't have a tablet either (Santa could be nice and drop one off) but I suspect that might also have a similar problem. I don't think they are good for typing as a laptop. thanks
Yes the 'like' button is fine but I agree a comment is better. I admit I do the 'like' button thing on FB often but I also will drop a comment. Buttons are quick. Actually the FB and G+ services were the biggest hits to blogs I believe. I like both services but see blogs as a more involved conversation tool.
thanks
Funny, I thought you got lots of comments, and since I wrote a few of them, I thought they were pretty good. With my blog, I find that people TELL me about the post, or even email me rather than comment. What's up with that?
I certainly get more now than I did just a few years ago. But compared to some blogs I don't get that many. I've seen some comments numbers easily run over 50 very quickly. thanks
