the stairway is old

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now

Did you know “Stairway to Heaven” is turning 40!

This song takes me back to my friends basement and hanging out listening to Led Zepplin. We used to do it on vinyl back then.

I enjoy the lyrics and its message of how some people expect that they can buy whatever they want. My favorite line:

"...Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on..."
Dominique Falla entry to the AGDA's poster annual

But it took 40 years for me to discover that just after the great guitar riff (around the 5:40 min mark) he sings

"...And as we wind on down the road..."
NOT
And there’s the wino down the road.

Wow I thought he was making a statement about winos.

As you know it is one of the most covered songs in rock n roll history. So I’ll leave you with a great cover by Heart.

Ooh, it makes me wonder

I know it wasn't my generation, but I love that song. I heard about the big 40th anniversary on the radio this week, complete with a debate about whether or not they should continue playing it. As though it could ever run its course! My dad had all of Zepplin on vinyl, I think he got a big kick out of high school me in 1995 stealing the old record player from the basement and digging out the milk crates of records.

thanks kid - I bet he did get a kick out of it.  I still remember the joy of discovering my daughter really got into the Beatles.  It nice to see a good influence on your kids.

Love this song.....brings me back to the 80's when my then boyfriend loved music and education me on the classics!!

Even as a kid I hated Stairway.  Way way way too long.

thanks for your honesty but honestly I disagree.  On a more cartoon related note, what do you think of Disney's Fantasia - Mickey The Sorcerer's Apprentice?

One of the great aspects of music - memories.  Boyfriend education, now I bet that could generate a few posts.

Hey, I'm here!

Good song, but definitely not my favorite Zepplin tune.  And yes, I always though those were the lyrics, too!

Thanks for browsing by Nate.  I often have a tough time selecting one favorite, but this one is in the top list.  "Immigrant Song" is another good one.

Huh - I often misheard song lyrics, but that one (wind on down the road) always sounded clear to me.  Have you heard the LMFAO song "Party Rock"?  There's a line in it "Gonna rise to the top, no led in our zeppelin."

Maybe you were not drinking wine at the time.  I have only heard one or two LMFAO songs and that's because someone posted a youtube clip on G+.  I have not made up my mind on that group yet.  Thanks for suggestion and pointing out the pun.

Wow. I did not know about the 40th anniv. I love this song - and listened to it very often back then. Ah, the crackle of vinyl! Still have a big stash, though am not sure what I'll do with it - my player conked off and I can't find someone to repair it.

We have two boxes of vinyl and my player got too old years ago.  I dusted it off once and the belt inside had disintegrated.  As a gift I got a new one (not too expensive) that can be directly connected to the computer.
thanks for sharing a comment

I had never heard that song until my first dance in 7th grade. I liked it but never heard it again in my youth. My folks were jazz musicians when I was growing up so populist music for young people was not something I was usually exposed to. Fun Memory - Thanks! W.C.C.

Take Five W.C.C.   That would be my top jazz tune but my jazz knowledge would be much less than yours.  thanks

One of my all-time favorite songs and no, I didn't realize it was hitting the big 4-0! And you mean they're not singing 'wino'??

Yes I was shocked to learn that too.  Almost makes you spill the wine.
thanks
