egg on face

Let’s not beat around the bush (but beat those eggs), Easter is almost here and people are getting eggcited.

I don’t want to stir up a hornet’s nest out on a limb, or skate on thin ice (still kinda cold here). At times around certain people I feel like I’m walking on eggs.

As the years pass I occasionally pick up some knowledge and a trace of wisdom. One thing (why I think diversity is good) I’ve noticed is how different religions and cultures have many common things and yet some odd customs and beliefs. Given the combination of sweets and eggs that have produced chocolate eggs, why don’t we find the chocolate Jesus more popular?  Also, (maybe I should write a Cardinal) I think communion at church would be more popular if the communion host was chocolate covered.

I just learn this year that bread is destroyed before the Jewish Passover (purge chametz). Symbolizing the many aspects of life with common daily objects and food can get a little confusing as the many different cultures come together in today’s world.

As I was researching around the web about Easter, bunnys, and eggs. I learned that hares and rabbits are different. Similar but different.  I should stop splitting hairs.

A recent comment by Mrs. 4444 started me thinking (dangerous at times) about the message in “Jesus Christ Superstar” musical/movie. Here’s a youtube clip and part of the lyrics:
You'd have managed better
If you'd had it planned
Now why'd you choose such a backward time
And such a strange land?

If you'd come today
You could have reached the whole nation
Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication

The Chicago Tribune has finished they annual peep diorama contest. I like this “peepmares” one the best.

Do you think someday in the future, peeps will replace colored eggs at Easter?

Have a Happy Easter, Passover, Good Friday, Spring Fertility, and/or fill-in-the blank Festival.

Happy Easter, etc. to you, too. Still love that first image and I didn't know about the peep diorama contest - cute!

I'm not sure how I would feel about biting the head off of Jesus.

I'm not so sure about this comment system and repeating comments.
Well the body and blood Christ was something I was taught about as a child so a chocolate Jesus makes logical sense to me. Wine and blood is sorta weird if you think about it. I'm not a big wine drinker but I enjoy it and there are those that like fine chocolate with their fine wine.

Yeah I used that image not too long ago. You probably remember. The peeps have been going on for a many years. I never tried making one but I consider that the best use of peeps. I don't know why anyone would eat those over sweet things. Happy Easter

Isn't it written in the bible "the peeps shall inherit the earth"??

I remember building those cardboard dioramas in junior high. They were fun to do. I'll be doing some with my kids soon for school.

I don't know about peeps, but today, I brought cake pops to work, and people went CRAZY for them! If I get ambitious, I'll make some this weekend (egg shaped, of course). Visit Bakerella.com if you're curious (and you always are, haha).

I laughed out loud at the chocolate-covered host idea. Too funny.

cake pops - the latest craze? So those are like cupcakes on a stick? thanks

Oh those long nights of school projects. Unless you have good planning and get your kids on schedule it always seems those things are last minute. Best of luck - thanks for sharing.

maybe - ha

I hope peeps don't replace colored eggs. At least the eggs are nutritious, which is more than you can say about most of the Easter treats. Not that I have anything against chocolate.

good point - the best is when my wife takes the Easter eggs and makes egg salad after it all over. You are right that you could not do that with peeps.

And the same to you, my friend. :-)

Hmm, a chocolate-covered communion host. You may be onto something, there! Perhaps they could replace the wine with chocolate milk, as well.

I enjoy Peep season, but not Peeps. Love all of the hoopla surrounding the little chicks!

And yes, I agree that it's fascinating to see how much overlap and differentiation there is in the way that different religions celebrate the same season.

Cakepops are awesome! I wish I worked with Mrs4444 :)

Peep season? I didn't know there was a "season". Is that like hunting season? What would you use to hunt a peep? A toothpick? They are very slow and not really fair until you take out of the package.

I hope Peeps don't replace eggs - I can eat eggs but not peeps. They are made with gelatin, which is made of the bones, cartilage and tendons of pigs and cows. Definitely not a vegetarian food!

lisleman said...

I did not think of the gelatin part. They have too much sugar anyway. There are different levels of vegetarian - right? Maybe types would be a better word. Since you have written often about different types of fish, I know you eat that. Do you follow a red meat prohibition? Where do chickens fit into that? Actually I completely understand if you would rather not play Q and A. Just my curiosity about why people pick different restrictions for reasons other than allergy or taste.

Oh my gosh I would LOVE to enter that Diorama contest. PEEPS are a whole food group around here!!! Great post and Happy Easter!! W.C.C.

There are different types of vegetarian - most people who don't identify as vegan are actually ovo-lacto vegetarians. That is, they eat dairy products and eggs but no meat. I am what people call a pesca-vegetarian - I eat dairy, eggs, and seafood, but not mammal or bird (so no chicken). It's an ethics issue for me based on a reluctance to needlessly kill animals and environmental issues, plus problems with animal treatment in commercial farming (I also only buy organic milk and free range chicken eggs). It might seem like an arbitrary line to draw between birds and fish, but it is one that worked for me. I don't judge, though, about where other people draw their lines - I have friends who eat burgers and friends who wouldn't consider eating seafood.

Is your next post going to tell the differences between hares and rabbits? I am interested. We have rabbits in the yard and I would like to know more about them.

Hope you have an Easter without the egg on your face, but with much peace in your heart.

You won't hear a Peep from me.

lisleman said...

I'm sure it's over now but they most likely will have it again next year and one article about it told of people driving across a few states to compete. That peeping nuts to me. thanks

lisleman said...

How hare you ask. Really I don't consider myself a hare/rabbit expert but I have recited bunny foo foo on occasion. What I gathered from wikipedia was the hare was larger and the babies are born with more abilities like sight and hare (bunnies being blind and hairless at birth). I hare not give more info. thanks

is that because you bit off the head? Have you seen that Easter cartoon with the chocolate bunny with chewed off ears?
