can you relate to this

If you remember the ad above then you must have noticed the big change in Super Bowl advertising over the years since Farrah and Joe filled up our smaller TV screens. As you might know Farrah is no longer with us. Broadway Joe is listed as 67 on his Wikipedia page.

As viewers, we have learned that 30 second ads costing 2 to 3 million dollars are typically worth watching. I learned from the Wikipedia page on Super Bowl advertising that DVR users will rewind to watch a Super Bowl ad. Also, Canadians complain that US ads are replaced with Canadian ones in the broadcast they receive.

Today, the Monday after the game, people will go to sites to watch the ads.  Why can't ads be that good more often?

Here's a site that has the ads and lets you embed them in your blog.  superbowl-ads

There has been games when I thought the ads were much better than the playing on the field.  Animals typical make great ads.   From office monkeys to beer loving lizards the animals offer good laughs.

Yesterday's game was good because it was so close.  I didn't care too much who won, I just like it when it can go either way until the end.

Even though I'm years away (hopefully) from living in a senior living facility, I have visited them and can related to the following ad which is my favorite.

"...42 wild Italians..."

What was your favorite Super Bowl ad?

(BTW - I'm still in an undisclosed location but I thought I might try putting out at least one post. Since I'm not on my normal routine, which is OK, I don't know when I'll post another one.)

I didn't see that one, but that was so great! And unfortunately, I do remember that Farrah/Joe one.

Oh, and I liked the Pepsi Max one.

I'm a little surprised you liked this one. It was one of my least favorites. My favorite was the Faith Hill flower ad, but I am a little weird like that.

My dad and brothers are all in advertising. TRy watching the Superbowl with them! They tear apart every single ad.

I really loved the monkey ad. When the first car parked too close I was thinking how much I loathe people who do that. When the second one hit him and then the monkeys piled out, I was on the floor laughing. That ad did more than point out the hazards of driving.

Anyway, the ad world and the talking heads on tv are abuzz about what was the best ad? AdAge picked the Darth Vader VW ad based on Twitter counts (I think).

the one with the runner chick getting hit in the head? That was funny but I ended up feeling bad for the runner chick - like that wasn't fair. I know it's only an ad. thanks

that would be tough with too much analysis. It annoys me when too many people are taking during the ads and I'm trying to focus on it. Why your least favorite? I find the old people funny.

Darth Vader VW was good and so was the monkeys. Filming monkeys is almost always funny. thanks

Hey you're not with Dick Cheney are you?

I've gone all the way to Pirates of The Caribbean on the video and now Seinfeld and other sitcoms NFL ad, and that one really bringing back memories. I could not relate to anything superbowl other than the wardrobe malfunction.

LOL - no I don't think I could stand spending much time with Dick Cheney. Thanks for stopping

Did you know the highest cost ticket to the first superbowl was $12??

lisleman said...

wow - no I didn't but I guess you need to convert that into 2011 dollars so it might be $60 or $80 maybe?

Oh yeah, Farah and Joe, she was so cute. She seemed to have natural good looks like Christie Brinkley. Why are you somewhere you can't say where, you know just saying that puts us on nosy alert.

I can't say I really remember many ads. But I rarely watch the Superbowl and didn't this year, of course, now that I'm tv-less.

lisleman said...

if I understand your set-up with the internet connection you could possibly go that site or a similar one and watch all the ads on your flat screen in one sitting. thanks.

nosy alert - that's good - really it's just family but this way readers will check back to find out where I was. Also, I thought it sounded funny.

Oh sure, I could. I just don't like to spend my time on ads.

You know how I feel about the Super Bowl ads (others can check out at my blog: I Can't Believe I'm Not Bitter) but the photo of Joe Namath made me think of a Noxema shave cream commercial long ago ("Take it off, Take it All Off")with Joe and a hot Swedish model, Gunilla, my landlady in NYC some years later. She was still gorgeous, even when wearing furry slippers and taking out the garbage. Some people just have it . . .

My least favorite was by far the Go Daddy commercials!!! Jillian is NOT attractive and she does not need to flaunt it.  Also kinda hated the Sketchers commercial with Kim Cardashian.
