comment fun

Blogging provides many things for bloggers but one thing it should provide for all that blog is fun.

A benefit of blogging is its global reach and fortunately for me the English language is wide spread. Even downunder in Australia (land of OZ) they understand Americans (except maybe my comments). I have not travelled quite that far from home yet, but my blogging has.

There’s a favorite young woman blogger in OZ which I know some of you know. I’m referring to the blog Lilly’s Life and I must assume her name is Lilly. But one thing I’m not going to do, is assume or guess her age. I don’t know but maybe Aussies don’t age as quickly. Have you seen Olivia Newton-John lately? She’s over sixty and looking great. All that physical stuff pays off I guess.

Recently Lilly posted a short complaint about too much rain. I like to comment, so I did.

At the end of my comment I asked:
“Wonder if you have an answer for something I've noticed here in the states (maybe it's worldwide) - why does the weather become a bigger part of older people's lives?”

Lilly replied: (go to her site to read the whole comment exchange)
“...Older ....I am hoping that your definition of OLDER is 80 years plus not Lilly age plus.

I will ignore the fact my blog post focused entirely on the weather and attempt to answer the question as if I really was an older person (shut it...to anyone thinking something they shouldnt be). …”

She went on to give a very good answer to the question but ended it with asking my same question back.

I replied to that reply with:
“.... (groveling words about age sensitive, calm down, didn’t mean to imply, blah blah.) ….
P.S. Thanks for allowing me to practice pissing people off. It's a talent that I will need as I age.”

Lilly ended the exchange with one more reply:
“You had me at sweet young thing - I knew then I didnt need to read any further (ha ha)”
=*=*=*=

Have you had fun comment exchanges with your readers?

Have you ever had a simple question get you into trouble because it was taken the wrong way?

Unknown Mami does a regular post about comments. She has both funny and serious comments with the bloggers she reads.

Sometimes. I don't know how many people actually come back to read my comment reply to them!

Yes coming back does consume even more time but I do enjoy getting a reaction so I often look. Of course you can subscribe to the comments so you'll see any replies. The interaction of this DISQUS system is its best feature. thanks

Hehe yeah, that exchange between you and Lilly was great - to me, this is what blogging is all about ... interacting with your readers ...

Sometimes, when composing a blog post, I'm tempted to spew out all the info I've got on the topic but, I hold some of it back so that I can slip it in to some of the replies to comments and thus make them more interesting ...

... and you're right, blogging should be fun.

Sadly, try as I might, I can't get disqus to mail follow up comments to me - if I want to know if you've replied to my comment, I have to re-visit the post ...

holding back eh? Thanks. While I must say that the email feature of DISQUS has given me problems too and there always seems to be a big delay there is a setting on the profile that promises to send you emails.
Now I'm wondering if you will get this reply emailed.

Oh yes, thrice this year, which is why I don't blog anymore, only comment.

you could blog and just control yourself.

Ok I give - FFS ? One version that might fit is Fat Finger Syndrome, but I suspect you mean something else.

I joked about a video that I thought the singer's voice was deep (assuming it was a guy)...only to find out it wasn't.

Can't think of specifics, but I always enjoy comment exchanges with other bloggers.

I'm funny and serious? I guess that makes me a whole package.

lisleman said...

Of course it does. I've read and enjoyed both at your blog. But you know if I wrote "she is the whole package blogger", it just would not have sounded right.

Yes, several times people have replied to my comments in a negative way. They were somehow offended by what I said, when all I was trying to do was inject humor. Anyone who has known me long enough, knows that I'm pretty easy going and mean no harm to anyone. The written word can be taken out of context, and then I have to respond and try to explain in more detail what I meant.

lisleman said...

You are definitely right about the written word and it's lack of tone of voice. That's another reason why the appeal of texting confusing me.

I have made some terrific friends through commenting. I even found a brother in a comment box once. Read my comment post (I linked up this week too) to read about it. Though I think I told you this before...LOL

Sometimes but not as often as I used to when I was in Blogspot.
The weather is crazy everywhere. In central Europe they have more snow than ever and we have more in Helsinki than in Lapland!
And that is not fun. Because Santa needs the snow soon...................

Interesting - maybe the comment system does make a bigger difference than I realize.

I hope none of my comments have been taken the wrong way. I try to go back as much as possible to see if some of the comments I left were responded to but sometimes I forget where I left them!

He he, yes I have had fun comment exchanges! In fact probably in about 2007/08 there used to be about 10 bloggers who had fun commenting on each others blogs and we all go to know each other. We kind of did little projects together, like writing etc. I think then i spent a lot of time blogging but it was a real community. i have every intention to get back into it all again now as life is not as busy, THANK GOD. I think your comment and reply system is a good one. i need to update my blog sometime and make it a better design. in the new year maybe. Anyway thanks for posting about my blog here too. It was fun, we must do it again some time. Culturally humor is something that can really go wrong. Aussies have a strange sense of humor sometimes because we are always laughing at ourselves and we can sound cynical as opposed funny. Hope you are having a good week!

Fun comment exchanges are my favorite. It’s what I too love about blogging. Plus it helps my days go by quickly at work ;)

Good to hear your life is not as hectic. Given the popularity of Aussie entertainers I conclude that Americans enjoy Aussies. We probably make fools of ourselves talking about mates and cooking on the barbie like we know what the hell we are taking about.
all the best
