Short news you don’t care about

Wayne Newton has penguins

I’m not sure how long his condition has existed. I just learned of his odd situation while listening to “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”. He was a guest on the show and played their “not my job” game.

During the interview I learned he has a 40 acre menagerie in Las Vegas called Casa de Shenandoah.

I guess (never had them myself) if you have the penguins, you want to share them with others.

It might be a good break from the slots and tables of the strip. The Newtons have more than penguins. Such as: a Frank Sinatra champagne glass, Nat King Cole's watch, Steve McQueen's Rolls-Royce and a Johnny Cash guitar.

He could sell autographed copies of “Danke Schoen”.

I can’t blog

One day when I have more money than I know what to do with, I want to own penguins too.
Or puffins. Puffins are cute.

Well, why wouldn't he have penguins? :)

Good question. Maybe all the Vegas lounge singers have penguins. Maybe he was paid in penguins once. Another mystery for me.

that's a good goal - I had a parakeet once and moving up to something like a cockatoo would be cool.

Ha! ... the Penguins have the Newtons and I'm sure they've trained them well ...

I must confess I had to google Wayne and now I feel embarrassed because he's quite famous ...

"There's no Entertainment Hall of Fame" Oh so the Emmys, Oscars and Tonys are just awards?

I heard that interview. You cannot mistake his speaking voice. The penguin thing captured my full attention. According to Mr. Newton, most penguins are warm weather birds from close to the equator. His are from South Africa. I thought it interesting.

Hi - are you back to your location that's better for blogging now?
Unless you have been to Vegas or have watched many lounge singers you probably would not know Wayne Newton.

lisleman said...

Yes I see your point but how many entertainment halls of fame have penguins? Now that's special.

Another NPR listener - they offer some great radio.

I have to say, as much as I loke penguins, I don't really approve of keeping wild animals as pets. Better they should donate their money to preserving penguin habitat.

lisleman said...

It does get ridiculous with wild things. But his type of penguins are known to thrive on lounge singer songs. Of course he could travel to their nature habitat and just perform for them there.
