old white rocker

I took an online survey sponsored by a company I have an account with. I don’t mind the occasional survey if they ask by email. Don’t call me. If I accidentally answer I’ll just hang up on surveys. This request by email offered a chance to win a $50 online shopping prize. That would be nice but I would rather them (I don’t think there are any laws against it) to just forget the contest and give out $5. I know the easy math says after 11 participants they will be losing money. There is the cost of running the contest that would not need to be run. Which would one you be likely to spend your time on - $50 contest or upfront $5? (oh if you answer my one question survey, all you’ll get is a thank you)

I don’t want to win this!

This is the second time I’ve received junk mail from the Neptune Society offering me a chance to win a pre-paid cremation. I have nothing against cremation. It has advantages. However I don’t want to “win” something I can’t use until I’m dead. It just wouldn’t feel like winning to me.

They announced last month’s winner as Clyde Heartfield. I’m wondering if he is burnt toast yet.

too late for your urning

Do you think Willie Nelson could make a comeback if he made a slight change to his lyrics:
On the smartphone again.
Just can’t wait to get on the smartphone again.

I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave. As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking around with a coffin, hours later and they're still walking around with it. I thought to myself, they've lost the plot!!
(that was pun sent by a friend.  I have friends in pun places.)

Having siblings is a blessing.  I'm lucky enough to have a brother and sisters.  This youtube clip came up in my search of oldies.  I didn't use it at the time but noticed it again in my youtube history.  Maybe because I have a brother it brings a smile each time I watch it.  Enjoy the crazy fun of lip syncing brothers.

I agree with you about the surveys over the phone! Also, with soliciting for charity. That pre-paid cremation contest has the strangest prize I believe I've ever heard of!

People do pre-purchase their funeral arrangements sometimes. So maybe the cremation company was hoping if one family member wins a package they might prepare for the future with other family members? It's hard to think about but I do think it's a good idea so that your grieving family doesn't have to make all these difficult decisions and it's expensive!

I have no desire to win a cremation but I will say that planning for the inevitable is less objectionable to me now than it once was. Last year we bought our plots and headstones and I am glad that is one less thing I need to do. I was amazed last week when my friend past away how detailed she was. Even had her music picked out.

Having punny friends is good

Seriously? A prepaid cremation?!?! I wonder how well that works for them.
Happy weekend, jj

I don't mind doing surveys, especially if I can win a $50 gift card. Wouldn't want to win that cremation prize either though--that's sick.

The cremations and prizes don't seem to go together do they?
thanks

I don't find any wrong with pre-planning and even pre-purchase some parts of the arrangements. But giving this stuff out as prizes just seems weird. I do wonder if you can trust the service or products you'll end up getting since you won't be around to complain. This type of thing is really a personal situation type of thing. thanks

Many families have plots in advance. My Air Force career gets us spots in a national cemetery. So that last real estate deal makes some sense. The headstones too? Do you have your epitaphs on them too? That seems a bit odd to me. Since I enjoy music so much I could see pick that out before a headstone. I did a post about funeral music once but I would need to search and I don't have the time at the moment. I really like "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum. It would be tacky but a concert would be cool. thanks for sharing

Ha Ha - great that got that little joke. Yes I think that contest is tacky and weird. The guy in front of the video acts a little annoyed by the one in the back. thanks

lisleman said...

Yes - puns offer good bonding. thanks

The prepaid part is not too strange but making it a prize is IMHO.
Have a Happy weekend too. thanks

lisleman said...

Yeah but it's only a chance to win. It appears most of the readers are finding that cremation prize a bit odd if not weird.
thanks

I once caught myself admiring the "pretty vases" in a funeral home before it dawned on me what they actually were!

Those boys....I can see why you enjoy the video, but I could only take so much. 22,000 views, though; that's impressive.

Thanks for linking up! I hope you're having a great weekend.

thanks for browsing by. You're probably right. Different types of silliness appeal to different groups of people. I do tend to enjoy presenting a serious type song in a very non-serious way.
thanks

lisleman said...

That's funny. It would even be worst, if you were admiring one at a person's house and were then told that it was grandpa Henry.
thanks

I'm not superstitious and I do like to plan ahead but entering a drawing for free cremation is a little creepy. Loved the pun.

creepy - I agree. thanks
