unleaded zeppelin

Back when you had to physically flip the record and put the needle on the groove to play the other half of the album, my friends and I were fans of Led Zeppelin.  We played their hard rock loud and I started to appreciate a good guitar riff.

Alison Krauss and Robert Plant winning Grammy awards 2009

Hey hey mama said the way you move,
Gonna make you sweat gonna make you groove.
Oh oh child way you shake that thing,
Gonna make you burn gonna make you sting.

Those are the opening lines of Led Zeppelin's hit song "Black Dog".

Flash forwarding to 2007 we find an interesting collaboration of the old Led Zeppelin rocker Robert Plant and bluegrass-country singer Alison Krauss.  They produced the album "Raising Sand" which I own (CD type of course).  Until I stumbled on a new version of "Black Dog" on youtube did I realize the duet also toured and their album won 5 Grammy awards.

Her soft sweet voice is certainly a noticeable difference to Robert Plant's screaming 1971 version.  Take a listen.  I think the song sounds sexier in this version he did with Alison on tour in 2008.

Maybe it's unleaded Zeppelin but it's still good music.  Turntables and good stereos were fun but youtube does have advantages for discovering music.

Wow. Never having been a Zeppelin fan nor any other heavy metal band, I can honestly say I like this version.

thanks for sharing. It still has good guitar techniques but didn't need the loud screaming vocals.

When I first heard that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were teaming up, I thought it was the oddest collaboration EVER but they really do sound good together.

Yeah it's that smoother voice that does it. The banjo at the beginning adds a different sound to it also. thanks

thanks their 2007 CD is very good too. I kinda forgot about it and then rediscovered it the other day. The Black Dog song is not on the CD but there is the Led Zeppelin song Please Read The Letter (not a big hit) on the CD. thanks

That version is awesome! I love the way they sound together. I too, own the CD of "Raising Sand". And I have a couple Zeppelin albums (yes, I said albums) in my album library. YouTube is fun.
