why picking up girls was so difficult

Or in other words, “get it on” didn’t work well.

You see I thought T. Rex had written a love song. The word “love” was used in their lyrics. The “get it on” approach as a pick-up didn’t work. I should have known better.

Take this part of the lyric for example:
Well you're windy and wild
You've got the blues in your shoes and your stockings
You're windy and wild, oh yeah
Well you're built like a car
You've got a hub cap diamond star halo
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

Now really, how are words like that going to improve your relationship? You’re going to be thrown to the curb like the week’s garbage. "built like a car" - what the hell does that mean?

Actually I’m a bit surprised T. Rex had the success they did, having their debut album titled, My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows. That’s the longest album title I know of. At least they were smart to shorten the band’s name from Tyrannosaurus Rex to T. Rex.

I’m so glad I don’t need to worry about that whole crazy scene anymore and I can bang a gong if I feel like it. (oh if you interested in one more T. Rex song here’s one from their long-ass titled album)

I wonder if pick-up lines are even used anymore. If they are I guess you text them. I'm sure glad not to worry about those stupids things. They seldom work. thanks

Hmm..built like a car? Is that kind of like she's built like a brick house? Mighty, mighty, just letting it all hang out. I'm with you, so glad I'm not dealing with pick up lines anymore. Have a fabulous rest of the week!

car, brick house, neither one sounds too good to me. Lyrics can be fun though. thanks

Built like a car could mean any number of things. I would hate to think what kind of car I would look like. Here is one that I definitely DON'T favor.

Really? That's a cool looking rocket type car. Looks like it started life as a Cadillac. It also has a resemblance to Madonna. thanks

Not really I just grabbed that one since I was turned and talking. It was a baby boy but only a few months old. thanks

Please don't judge me, but "Get it On", or as I refer to it, "Bang a Gong", is one of my all time favorite songs! Thank you so much for posting it! I never have understood the lyrics - I just love the music and the beat. I have a T Rex album that pre-dates this megahit! It's a piece of art in itself!

Since you're a drummer it doesn't surprise me this song's beat would a favorite. You don't have that album with the really long title do you?

Drug song.

The one that always makes me laugh these days says, Grab somebody sexy, tell them 'Hey, give me everything tonight.'

I think that's liable to get you slapped.

Too often if you say what's running through the low emotional parts of your mind you will get slapped. Not much thought is put into some of these sayings. thanks

I'm not familiar with that song, here's another one for your long title trivia collection, one of my favorite songs from high school by Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside of a Broken Phone Booth with Money in my Hand.

Phone booths (or the lack, thereof) seems like something you'd blog about.

I may have mentioned a phone booth once or twice. If I was describing air travel back when I started traveling often then a phone booth may have come up. Maybe you remember as a kid going to an airport and seeing a long row of payphones. There were many times when a canceled/late flight would jam the pay phones.
That is a very long song title. I first heard of T-Rex as a reference in another song. They were much bigger in the UK. The song in this post was their big US hit. thanks
