Complete the sentence: You’re so _____.
Using one of the recent big news stories it could be: You’re so Anthony Weiner.
This post is not about that idiot but the song I’m posting about today does fit him well. I wonder if his wife likes the song.
“You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon gave us one of the great mysteries of the 20th century. Now in the 21st century, the mystery of who the song is about continues but of course we have the internet and a web page about it.
Here’s a little background from Carly Simon’s web site:

“You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon gave us one of the great mysteries of the 20th century. Now in the 21st century, the mystery of who the song is about continues but of course we have the internet and a web page about it.
Here’s a little background from Carly Simon’s web site:
“In January of 1973, “You're So Vain” was the # 1 hit song on the radio. Carly Simon had just married fellow pop-superstar James Taylor a month before, so when “You're So Vain” hit the airwaves, it stirred intense curiosity about which one of her previous lovers was the subject of this wry nod to the male ego. Was it Mick Jagger? Cat Stevens? Warren Beatty? Kris Kristofferson? It was common knowledge that she had been involved with each of them in the past.”
The page about this on her web site includes many interviews and stories about this mystery. If you like her or the song I recommend browsing over to it.
I found these two youtube clips up there. The first is funny and the second one won a 2010 contest for best video using Carly Simon’s updated version of the song.
(BTW it never occurred to me until Bearman Cartoons left a comment that my parody of another Carly Simon song, “Nobody Does It Better” made me look a little vain. I’m not. Really.)

Shucks! ... I thought the song was about me ... :)
I hadn't seen that second video before....very cool.... and the web site about who the song might be about is pretty interesting too. I've always suspected it was based on a compilation of all the big egos she knew. The fact that a number of her male friends thought it was about them, bares proof that a lot of them were vain.
well if you are talking about Wiener then it is Your so VEIN
Not sure I'm following you on this one. thanks
I found that web page very interesting. Interesting how something like this gets a life of its own. I agree with your conclusion. Long ago when I was more naive, I thought only women were vain. thanks
funny sorry to disappoint you.
I always heard it was about Warren Beatty - I never knew about all of the others! Your blog is so educational. Oh, don't get me started on Anthony Weiner, though. Yikes!
thanks - Mr. Weiner might just text himself into oblivion. We can only hope.
Wow Carly Simon did not have it bad at all..
Love that song. I have" a scarf that is apricot" and every time I wear it, I start singing. "I'm so vain, I probably think this scarf is about me . . ."
do you mean too many "good" men to date back then? thanks
that's funny, have you posted about the scarf?
thanks
