Valued Friday Fragments

I predict the value of Friday Fragments will rise next year. There is no fiscal cliff to worry about with Friday Fragments. I’m not saying my fragment selection today will stop you from jumping off one though.

After reading mine why don’t you just go jump in a lake of fragments. You can find a lake of fragments over at Mrs. 4444’s blog. Oh if you don't know, she is way up in Wisconsin so be prepared, her lake could be frozen by now.

Mommy's Idea

Life is certainly not presented to us as the nice neat package we want. I find songwriters often express this in a very good way (thanks Linda Perry).

I start feeling a little peculiar
and so I wake in the morning
and I step outside
and I take a deep breath
and I get really high
and I scream at the top of my lungs
what’s going on!
(hope the neighbors didn’t mind, but their dogs make more noise)

My brother is back up here in Illinois (he who lives in the middle of nowhere). He met up with me and we went to a talk/book presentation about Vietnam. He served in Vietnam. I’m very thankful he returned ok and do enjoy the few stories of his experience that he shares. We both enjoyed the evening talk.

It’s been said about me, that I express odd remarks about things others don’t care about. I consider this a talent (when you have few you look for them). My family finds it annoying. I have OCD - Obsessive Curiosity Disorder. Remember when your toddlers started asking why? I never stopped asking.
Why is that driver turning left right here in front of me?

I try to find irony in life even though I have not used an iron for over a decade.

You the “A Few Clowns Short” reader, you light up my blog and I thank you.

Unfortunately, while our lakes up here in Wisconsin may have a skim of ice on them in the morning, we are getting up into the high 30's and 40's nearly every day, so not enough ice on our lakes to shake a stick at.

I'm READY for some snow and ice - - - bring it on!

BTW - I got the blogger comment form again today. No Disqus here.

Ha! I think your OCD is a good disorder to have and describes your well-- although I do not find you annoying in the least.
Hope you're enjoying the holidays, jj

I can't believe it's Friday. i spent this week getting my tiny township, population 698, up and running on more government internet platforms than you could roll a pork barrel over, I have done all of it with the help of the government's hotlines for each platform, estimated waiting time ten minutes or more. I had more tickets going than a Chinese laundry. At 2:30 this afternoon I had our road super authorized to submit grant requests to the NPS to repair their roads. Tomorrow I'm going shopping. How's that for a Friday fragment for you.

Sounds like a job well done. "more tickets - than a Chinese laundry" - good one. thanks for stopping by and leaving a great fragment.

thanks - I might have both the curiosity and compulsive types. If I think about it I probably could find more "c" words to fit. Three and four letter disorders - because we don't have the time to say the whole words.
Happy Holidays

I LOVE the reference to OCD. We should all suffer from this, maybe it'd be a better place to live.

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.
Glad to know your brother came home from vietnam. My Uncle served too but came home a totally different person. He was messed up, became an alcoholic, did drugs, drove his car off a bridge and died. Very sad story.

I'm in Illinois, too! And yep -- I have your brand of OCD.

I like that the toddler in you stayed....thankfully you have another audience besides you family to bounce your why's off! Happy weekend!

lisleman said...

thanks - that's a good way to phrase it. This other blog audience is the best part of blogging.

Curiosity is a useful thing. thanks

That is a very sad story and one that more people should think about before we get "pumped-up" about war. I've been lucky to never have experienced the impact of combat. I don't believe anyone can come out of combat without some type of emotional scar.

It's not sand but it does look like it in my picture. It's concrete/cement. The sculpture is in a Chicago park. thanks

I agree curiosity would be better than many of the other things found in people. thanks

You're right, of course. My youngest never stopped asking "Why?" He is now livin' the dream. He and his brother are in Honolulu til Tuesday when they fly to Sydney, AUS with one way tix and one year work visas.

I ask questions in traffic all of the time. I practice Spanish by talking to motorists who can't hear me because I am too scared to say things with the windows open. I say things like, why are you backing up on an expressway ramp? or why is there a cow walking OPPOSITE traffic on this four lane highway? Or why, o taxi driver, do you stop in the middle of the road to talk to friends on the side of the road? Just OCD stuff.

lisleman said...

I'm jealous. Never been to Australia.

Learning traffic Spanish - could be useful. I do believe different cultures do drive differently.

Have you seen this version?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itvJybdcYbI

lisleman said...

thanks - I had not seen that one. It would mean more to me if I followed those cartoon characters.

I used to babysit some boys who were big He-Man fans (mid-80's). He was this hyper-masculine guy, so pairing him with the song and all the pink sparklies makes it funny.

I have a nephew that does the exact same thing and it drives his family up the wall as well lol. I bet you could go on a quizz show and win though with all your general knowledge. You have a thirst for knowledge and learning. And that is a good thing as you will live longer and not die of boredom.

lisleman said...

Thanks so much for taking the time to browse back through my posts. I really don't know how anyone could die of boredom. The world is just too interesting. Yes, I've been bored at various places and times but it doesn't last. Thanks
