standing like a frozen snowman

A funny holiday related prank.

Long ago there was a wax museum in Chicago's Old Town.  Back in the late 60's, Old Town was a touristy hippie place to hang around and look cool.  I remember the wax museum had a guy dressed-up as a gorilla, stand very still, then jump and scare you.  (at least I assumed he worked there)

That experience probably gave me a similar idea years later at another wax museum.  During a short vacation in Myrtle Beach I took my young SIL (9-10 yrs old, wonder if she remembers) to their wax museum.  My wife and MIL were probably shopping. (Even to this day, I would rather stare at wax people than shop.)

Anyways, the two of us enter this wax museum (if it is still there, I'm sure it has been updated) making our way down a long hallway with exhibits on one side.  As we made our way through the place, I discovered this window in the center wall that just looked into the other side of the hallway.  Picture a long room with exhibits on the outer walls and a long wall dividing the center into two hallways.

I told my little SIL I had an idea and just stand real still next me for a minute in the window area.  Our timing was perfect.  A young couple, certainly on a date, approached.  They talked about the exhibit, turn and gave us curious look.  I raised my hand and said "Hi".

Both jumped.  She screamed.  We took off running out of the place laughing.

The different reactions were funny and very interesting. I'd love to have a brother-in-law like you.

That's my kind of prank.

That is funny. Of course if someone had a heart attack it might be slightly less funny.

Yes that would not be funny but I don't think the prank is that scary.

Start working on your snowman costume.

thanks - Believe me I'm not always funny, but I try.

Thanks - worth a double take - good.

thanks - it is a fun memory.

Yeah she was the best one. First she puts up her dukes and then flips him off. I also like the two teens at the end where one goes to touch it and it moves. thanks

hehehe .... I have been fooled the other way 'round, in stores. when I've thought that a mannequin is a real person ... I also absolutely hate plastic flowers and plants because of my disappointment when I find out they're not real and I've been duped

Love it....laughed so hard!

thanks - I shared another laugh

It is more special when you know it is alive (or was in the case of cut flowers). They can make very life-like flowers. It is more of a minor disappointment for me. thanks

sounds like something you'd do

"end of the world" cartoons on emptynestevolution.blogspot.com today

shamelessly promoting, I know.

lisleman said...

I would if I had the costume. Nothing wrong with a little promotion if you read the post. thanks

The video was funny. Once in a wax museum in London, my sister tried to touch the face of a man who just happened to be standing still. I think he was lost in thought, because he flinched and she screamed.

Oh, I hope you know I was kidding...my meager attempt of putting the "slightly less funny". I think those types of pranks are harmless.

that's funny. Did you travel overseas much?

lisleman said...

Oh I really didn't know. That's the problem with text - no voice cues. Yeah, it's fun until someone loses an eye. Hey try your humor in my comment section anytime. I might not get it but that's ok.

Some. I went to boarding school in Switzerland for a year when my father was in Saudi Arabia, so vacations times were in S.A. and England.

that's very interesting. You (not saying you should) have not mentioned your living overseas on your blog. I believe traveling to other countries brings you a better understanding of our world. We get so self centered in the US at times.
