marketing annoyance

Countdown to Christmas?

Seriously, (or would the SNL “Really” approach work better?) would anyone in the US or most other western countries forget Christmas if they were not reminded of it by ads?

Oh my, look George, all those houses being decorated around the town? Is there some event coming?
Oh nuts, I forgot it was Christmas again! A statement I have never heard anyone utter.

We are launching Jesus and need a countdown!

Christmas Countdown - yes we have an app for that!

(oh I think it happens around the end of December. If you see lots of people counting in the middle of night and watching a lighted ball drop, you missed it.)

Hearing this a lot already. It's all over FB.

I'm not on FB that much and didn't notice people discussing Christmas. It makes sense since everyone before FB would complain that the Christmas went up too early again. thanks

It has not started in Malaysia, I'm not sure, I have to go to the mall to see, but still Christmas starts early here too. We have the upcoming Diwali next week so that'll go first then full blast Christmas.

With the different mix of religions in Malaysia I would expect it to be different. I didn't know Christmas was much of big there at all. thanks it's good to learn about places around the world.

I am the first in my neighborhood to have Christmas lights up (day after Thanksgiving) and the first to have them down (New Years Day)

lisleman said...

No problem with that schedule. You just seeing them up days before T-day.

I hate hearing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I don't even want to think about Christmas until the day after turkey day!

I know it's supposed to bother me that Christmas is so heavily advertised and that it starts so early, but to be truthful, I ignore most of that. I no longer get caught up in the consumerism of it all, don't shop on Black Friday and only do the Christmas traditions I really enjoy.

Sadly, I'm the type who needs the reminder. For the last...I don't even know how many years, I've been meaning to buy my parents tickets to this Christmas show that gets sold out every year. I always forget and wait too long. I saw another blogger post something about Christmas, which hadn't even crossed my mind yet. But it was the jog to the memory I needed. I went online to buy their tickets today and already, ALREADY, all the good seats were gone. At least it wasn't already sold out completely.

I can wait until mid December. thanks

Good that you don't give into pressure. thanks

Glad I could help jog your memory. Thanks for browsing by and sharing a comment.

When I was a kid, I loved the decorations going up in Dec. Now that stores start filling isles with Christmas in September, by the time Dec. rolls around I am tired of it.

I think people just like to have countdown clocks for everything. Kind of like checking things off a to-do list? I like writing things down, even if I've already done them, just so I can cross them off a list.

yes we tire of things such as this election. Good thing we don't elect Santa. thanks

I'm not a lister. I make mental lists and I like to plan things out but I don't write down a list. I would rather doodle.
thanks

Christmas used to be so beautiful.

lisleman said...

I think it can still be beautiful but you need to make it simple first.

Holidays come in an order, at least according to the calendar. If you cannot remember Christmas, you seriously have something wrong with you.

I pretty much hate Christmas mucus, I mean, music. Period. The only album I actually like is Oscar Peterson's Christmas. It's just good jazz.

lisleman said...

Hey you are going to take my excuse away

lisleman said...

Yes maybe I should. I remember your post.

Christmas mucus - very good.

I wish Christmas was just as simple as Jesus and family but it's not. Is it bad that I'm already stressed out when I think about it? And I cannot not buy presents. If I buy one, I have to buy for them all. BLEH. Forget Christmas, I'm celebrating November.

You're funny. It's kind of fun to imagine forgetting it. Thanks for the grin.

lisleman said...

For most of us forgetting it would not be a good sign. Glad to share a smile or a grin.

lisleman said...

I wish I knew what to say about the stress. The best presents are not bought at a store but a gift of your time and love. I know this reads well and if kids are involved it almost impossible for them to understand. I wish you the best. I also wish it was simple.

"We are launching Jesus" would look wonderful on a bumper sticker. Or maybe as a band name...

Great for a band name. thanks
