I didn’t start the fragments

Mrs. 4444 did, as best I can tell.

Do you get tired of watering your blog? I do and I have seen many just drop a drooping blog. I find Friday Fragments as easy to apply blog nourishment.

Thinking of blog nourishment, I’ve been working on my header banner lately. The old words of “Few Clowns Short” need to much dusting so I took the sign down. I’m still trying to figure out where to put the blog name “A Few Clowns Short”. I was short of space in original graphic so the ‘A’ was dropped from the start.

Mommy's Idea

Interesting outcome to my last post about learning Spanish from Shakira youtube videos. Most the comments have additional Spanish in them. So I’m learning a little Spanish from a post about learning Spanish from Shakira.

Recent comparison of early morning Lisleman vs. zombie:
  • both hungry
  • both drag their feet
  • both have breath you don’t want to know
  • both often grunt and moan as they move
  • both look awful

Except for lack of blood dripping and coffee drinking (have you ever seen a zombie sit down for a cup of coffee?) a person could might mistake me for a zombie in the morning.

what did you learn on the internet today?

I learned the term “patter song” which is a type of song I’ve enjoyed over the years but never knew of its classification. The lyrics of a patter song are sung in a rapid fashion. It presents a challenge to pick out the words. “We Didnt Start The Fire” by Billy Joel is an example of a favorite of mine.

I found the following one on G+. It was released in 1974. After listening, I remember it but still can’t figure out the lyrics.

A few days I ago I did learn an odd thing about sperm whales. I’ll be posting about it soon but feel free to take a wild guess. Oh and it’s nothing to do with Shakira or Spanish.

It's cool to get a comment right away after posting but not when it's a spammer. They never give up I guess. I caught it and deleted it.

I learned nothing from the internet today--Too much to do, what with company in town, puppies peeing all over the place, coughing, and trying to get enough work done so I can relax a little this weekend.

I like the change (new header) :)

Got a little creeped out there, when the line ended with "sperm." Thank goodness for "whales." Now I'm so flustered I can't think.haha

good thing you don't teach biology (at least I don't recall you ever mentioning biology). Hope your coughing clears up and you have a good weekend. Much cooler this weekend I hear.
thanks for hosting - I'll be linking up after this reply

It is not a crazy idea. I learned tons of long, crazy, spanish words that she uses, just by listening. Although, how can you learn when you her videos make you do one or both of these things. Stare with your mouth open, dance.

My blog almost died of malnourishment during August, I blame the heat and moving.

Sperm whales are SOOOO interesting. They have some great physical adaptations. I look forward to reading about what you learn.

I feel like the zombie too today...

Boys will be boys… is that how the saying goes? Well, MY boys know the answer to the sperm whales. And they giggle as they tell me the answer!

I've never hear the term patter song before. That is very interesting.

As I've been waking up earlier for the last week than I have in a long time, I've had a few zombie mornings of my own.

I'm definitely a morning zombie, too!

Hehe ... great video ... made me think of T Rex ... remember them?

you have a knack for causing songs to stick in my head over and over .... a few days it was "if I was a fragment" ... grrrr

:)

lisleman said...

I remember T Rex but was not a huge fan. I do enjoy music and I probably tend to like older songs that were hits or near hits. thanks

Many of us are not morning people. Maybe non-morning people just have better dreams and don't want to leave them. thanks

Please don't bite anyone. thanks

It appears that many of us are playing with blog formats and headers. I like your streamlined look.

intriguing - Now I want to know what they think it is. I'll get working on that post. I discovered it online from a news feed. thanks

lisleman said...

Waking up earlier - hopefully the reason is not a bad one. You need time to rid yourself of zzzz's or you'll have a 'z' left and become a zombie.
thanks

If I'm thinking of the right Traci then you have lots of oceanography knowledge from your job. You might have already heard of this odd thing but I need to get working on that post. Good to know there's a bit of interest. thanks

I homeschool my daughter, and our school year officially started this week with a new, early schedule. But the early schedule has her excited, and it is making her excited about doing her work, so I really can't complain.

Ridding myself of ALL the zzzz's so I don't become a zombie - that is hilarious!

What did you learn on the internet today?--such a disappointing photo. The thumbnail depicts you standing under a huge rock formation, shouting to the universe, "What did you learn on the internet today?" And you're only scanning the horizon for UFO's. Or something.

lisleman said...

thanks I still plan to make a few changes to it. I've noticed you changing your picture often. Since the blogger sees the header the most, they get bored with it first. thanks

lisleman said...

That picture (yes it's only a small sized one) has me standing in the nostril of a rock formation at the Joshua Tree National Park. Very interesting place for rocks and desert things. I didn't see any UFO but we did find some litter. thanks

Too strange. Now I CAN leave a comment here - - - all day long I could not.

I've never heard that song and didn't realize that type was called a patter song - so I learned two things on the Internet today, right here!! Love your new banner - mine really needs to be dusted off!!

unknownmami said...

I don't think zombies can sit because of rigamortis or rigamarole. Pick one.

lisleman said...

that is very strange - but thanks for taking the time to email.

lisleman said...

Good to hear I provided some additional information to collect in your head. I don't think banners need to change too often but I think the blogger gets tried of the same one after a bit.
thanks

lisleman said...

rigamarole - I have not used that word in quite awhile. Zombies don't rick-rolled either I bet. thanks for the zombie info.

yes i know what you mean about watering your blog. The problem is I tend to either over water it or starve it close to death, and nothing in between. I thought about starting a meme like choose a theme and then write something for 100 words only. I don't know do you want to start a new meme? Put your thinking cap on. I like writing ones or maybe a picture to represent the theme. It is a way to get new people to your blog.

As for what did I learn. Well I don't do much surfing of the web just reading news or reading blogs. I too learnt about patter songs from your blog. Never heard of them before.

lisleman said...

Good another patter song student. I started LLL see right side button and even though the first 'L' was "Lisleman's" it could be "Lilly's". The theme was just funny posts. I'm not big on rules but maybe making it more of a challenge would be better. Check it out.

I was *just* admiring the new header and wondering why I didn't notice it last time I stopped in. I think I need a return to Fragments.

Also, We Didn't Start the Fire is such an interesting song. I tried to get one of my sociology classes to re-write it to fit their generation, but a shocking number of them weren't even familiar with the original version. I felt old.

lisleman said...

The subject of that great song did place it in a specific time period. Thanks for the compliment on the header. Don't feel old but wise instead.
