flip me a Friday fragment

Don’t foozle your Friday. Frame some fragments in a post and link your framed fragments over at Mrs. 4444’s blog.

(Warning: The post of fragments you are about to read contains Lisleman’s fact and fiction. It only takes a quick spin on my office chair to start my fragments spinning.)

Mommy's Idea

(a text) K C U @ 3:32 -  I've received many of these type texts lately since our daughter got accepted in a graduate program and she has been commuting into the city on the train.

I have a BSEE and the idea of masters or even PhD crossed my mind but family, living, and money didn't seem to allow it. I do enjoy learning. I look back with NO regrets. In fact pursuing it may have kept me from some of the vacations and events I had with my family. It’s hard to say, but they do cost money and time. Don't stop learning.  Learning is bigger than any course work and is as close as your own head.

Men are from bars, women are bloggers. Sure I blog and there’s few men bloggers that visit here. But my no politics and very little sports coverage might not match well with guys. I really don’t know. I suspect that guys just don’t read blogs much. Maybe the internet is like Playboy - the many distracting pictures keeps you from reading the good stories on blogs.

Just a short fragment on politics. I just confirmed that our congressional district was redrawn and we are now in a different district. Every house seat is subject to change in the upcoming election so my representative might have changed anyway but now it will for sure.

Now that I used the word politics I might as well use the word religion. In my opinion religion is a very personal thing. I’m not very religious but I have prayed many times. I certainly don’t think any one religion has the answers. Also we can learn from other religions.

The reason I mention religion is the recent news story about the possibility that Jesus had a wife. My first reaction about this ancient script was “they found a honey-do list?” If Jesus was married I would think she would have be referenced at least once in those stories while he was hanging with the boys.

Married - no matter either way. I read this Chicago Tribune article about it and completely agree that this news prompts people to discuss religion which is good thing when everyone acts respectfully. The author of the article who is with the Archdiocese of Chicago, brought up a bible passage (Matthew 8: 14-15:) in which Jesus cured Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever. The strangest part for me is at the end of passage. After the fever left her, she waited on them and in some versions served them a meal. I’m thinking Peter saying something like, “Ok my buddy healed you, now off and make us sandwiches.” Don’t you think there is humor in the Bible?

The good years, the growing years, we tend to categorize the periods of our lives. Lately, I wondering if retirement is going to be the annoying years.

I love it when readers go for a scroll on my blog. Please feel free to scroll around the blog. If you saw my last post you know I went to the ledge and back.

Oh there's a new treat for readers going to the bottom (of the page) - see/listen - new slideshow.

The Bible writers liked to keep it real. I can see that a good Jewish mother in law would want to get up and fix dinner, even if she was just healed by Jesus.

Well ok, my MIL is not Jewish and I do believe she enjoys feeding me.
But it would be better if the MIL after being healed said something like.
Hey that was great, can you cook too? My lack of cooking skills would require a miracle for a good dinner if it depended on me.

Interesting post today full of bits and pieces. Yes well my daughter is planning to do a Masters. I did mine later in life and was glad I did it but mainly because the company I was working for paid for it. I did an MBA and found it very useful and practical. But I agree, we all should be learning new things and interested in expanding our horizons, very important to our health as well.

As for guys reading blogs, I have three men who comment regularly on mine. You and a couple of others. Of course years ago, in 2009, when we had a big community of people reading and following each others blogs there were a lot more. Lately i have been really missing those days as it was a real network of people. I think though that there are just a lot more women who read and write on blogs than men.

Religion - always a curly one. I think its all about respecting each others views and beliefs as long as no-one is being harmed.

The retirement years - annoying in what way? Aging is not for the faint hearted my mother always says. I think if you look after your health as best you can everything else looks after itself. Health is the priority. I need to do better and get fitter myself but it is a constant project.

Great post, enjoyed all the bits you raised. Thanks.

You are right about there being fewer male bloggers than female. I'm not sure why except that men may not be interested in tablescaping, crafting, home decorating, and thrifting - - - all topics that seem to be pretty prevalent at least in my circle of blogging.

In that respect, I must not be a female either because I do precious little talking about any of those topics. I do venture into antiquing from time to time. AND I plunge straight down the college football lane all the time which is very unlady-like of me.

;-)

I usually refrain for politics and religion talk....taboo subjects! I heard the same news report....I think there is a lot of humor to be found all around us...my MIL sent us an email about what life was like when she graduated HS in 1955...so funny. It's weird to think what will be news 25years from now and how our grandchild or great grand children will laugh at a company named Apple and people waiting for a phone!

I thought about the story of the woman who fed everyone after her healing. Jesus healed a little girl who was deathly sick. The first thing she did? She ate. Once a group of lepers were healed. They all ran away happily, but later one returned to say thank you. I think that the common theme is that Jesus approached healing as the norm for his life and those who followed him. He didn't make a ruckus about it. Maybe that's the attitude we should have. We should expect the supernatural to enter the natural world at times, and we should accept it with grace, but not with superfluous religiosity.

I refrain from politics. It can become a heated argument amount friends. I prefer to keep my opinions to myself. As far as religion, I believe similar to you. Everyone has a right to their religion and each religion has similarities. I do think Jesus had a wife, even though it was not specifically mentioned. There are hints to it, if you read between the lines. :)
There are few male bloggers. I think it would be interesting to have a male's point of view on a lot of subject. I am thankful I get to see yours.
Have a good weekend.

Guys generally don't read blogs. The only guy who reads mine is my boyfriend and that's because he's sweet like that. But I definitely agree with that fragment.

Thanks so much for sharing all this. So men vs. women reading blog difference - just a difference in social needs?
Oh yes your health is the main concern as the years accumulate. I just find myself annoyed by more things and people every year.

Tablescaping - I have never used that word before. I suspect it comes from landscaping and applies to table settings. Now table scraps I know about.
thanks

I laugh at the people camping over night for an Iphone now. Guessing what the talk of the day will be 25 years from now is a good post idea.
thanks

I'm always glad to offer my opinion and often do even when no one asked for it. I did hear that most all Jewish men were married so it would have been odd for him not to be married. thanks

Boyfriend reading your blog - hmm, you must need to be careful about reporting things about him. thanks

I'm lucky to have a blogging hubby... he gets it too...

I think women are just better at social media than men...ha! There I said it. Present company excluded.

lisleman said...

thanks for not including me the social media challenged group. Honestly I do wonder about my own progress in this. I could group the blogs into some general categories and humor does NOT have many in its category. I don't care about giveaways or recipes. Of course many women blogger don't either. Do the blog conferences discuss this men vs. women topic much? In the end, I'm having fun and readers do come by and share feedback - so I'm satisfied with it.
thanks

You and Wayne are the only couple I know that both have active blogs. Maybe I'm mistaken but doesn't one of the in-laws have one too? I'm lucky to get my kids to read mine.

unknownmami said...

I like to think of my blog as an often humorous "lifestyle" blog, which means I'll do a bit of everything. It's not just humor because sometimes I'm not funny, there aren't too many recipes because most of the time I don't follow recipes, I'll giveaway something if I think it is worth giving away. I just like to connect.

lisleman said...

You write very funny stuff and like many others get serious too. I like blogs with enough variety so that the reader gets to connect as you say. If all the posts are tightly focused on a particular topic then it might as well be a company blog because it doesn't have personality. You know if there was a beer giveaway I would go for that.

unknownmami said...

I don't think my husband would let me give away beer. He'd have first dibs.

Well, I'm guessing "annoying" is probably a good descriptor for your retirement. The question is, will you or your wife be more annoyed?

Enjoyed your biblical musings. :)

Thanks for linking up. Have a great weekend!

thanks for browsing by. Good question that I will decline comment on. Have a great weekend too.

My husband only reads my blog, which I do not understand, we live in the same house. He does laugh when I read him other blogs, maybe that is the key, I talk and he listens....

Nancy said...

I often give my husband bits and pieces of other's blogs and he's often surprised when one of his employees tells him about something on my blog :) I did write down my password and told him that if something happens to me to tell my blog friends so they won't wonder what happened to me!

lisleman said...

Listening is always important. The skill of tuning out is useful and dangerous. thanks for sharing

Now there's a blog topic - the blog after death. Thanks. I do know of one blogger I was following who died. Very sad because we do get to know each other over time. Here's his blog if you are interested:

I actually have a fair number of regular male readers and follow a number of men's blogs. They're out there.

lisleman said...

There are a few I follow too. I think they make up a much smaller percentage but I don't have any data other than my own experience which is not much of a sampling. thanks
