Really. With the vast variety of things people group in threes, this song gives us hens? Maybe eating chicken was not that common back then.

Today the cost of shipping live birds would be much more than the cost of the bird so I just assume they came frozen.
Three French Hens
Did they at least come cooked? Just heat and serve items save the busy person of today all the preparation time.
