The thankful season should last all year long. Given the added focus of upcoming Thanksgiving Day (in US, I know Canada already had theirs) I want to say thanks for two recent stories I read.
Honest people returning found money.
The first story comes from a blogger you may know. JJ over at The Fifty Factor wrote recently how she found an extra $27,000 in her bank account.
I do wonder if after she posted this if she started to receive an unusual amount of emails from foreigners offering her a deal of a lifetime.
Not only did she return the money and correct the accounting error but had to push the bank officials into action to get it done.
The second story was reported by a favorite Chicago Tribune columnist, Mary Schmich. A couple with young children recently purchased a home from the family of an elderly deceased woman, and with it came all the furniture.

The new owner decided that she didn’t want to keep the old mattress. There under the mattress was a blue bag.
Inside that blue bag was $23,800 dollars neatly wrapped in bundles.
The new home owner drove to the home of one of the deceased woman’s sons and told him of the surprise find. The new home owner says the son looked like he was about to pass out from the shock.
These are great stories because it enforces my belief that most people are good and honest.
Lastly, I’m thankful for not having to dodge these wild birds on the roads around me.

That looks like a Turkey Diva. Oooh La-La!
good one - are not all Divas turkeys?
thanks for the laugh
Thanks for posting these - I'm behind on JJ's blog posts (well, everyone's!) and so I didn't see that one. I believe the honest people way outnumber the dishonest - they just don't get the publicity because most of the time, they're too humble for the attention. It's good to hear about them! (And yes, I believe those are heels!)
You are SO funny, Bill. Loved the sweet parts of your post, too. You're right; we should be thankful all year round. I believe that what goes around comes around. Still, I might have been tempted...
thanks for sharing your view - I like it.
thanks - I bet you have had the opportunity to return money that wasn't yours before. I've done it at stores. Believing in good is a positive thing.
Hi Lisleman, Thanks for thanks for the shout-out. i LOVE the money in the mattress story and the happy ending. That's awesome. I have no idea how my story ended after I returned the money. I'd like to think there was a happy guy on the receiving end.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! jj
Yes you would hope so but it doesn't really matter because you know you did the right thing. Thanks for stopping by - Happy Thanksgiving.
Ha - a bird wearing heels - it really looks like it!! I worked at a place once that we billed off $2000.00 in services and received a check signed by TWO veeps and the head finance guy for $2 million dollars!!! I begged my boss to deposit the thing BEFORE immediately calling the company back to arrange repayment - but just the interest alone on ONE day in the bank (8% on savings in those days) would have been a needed boost for our dumpy little firm. Honesty is to be celebrated no matter what the form! Happy Thanksgiving! W.C.C.
Hey, is that your car?
Yes indeed ... it's heartening to hear stories like this ...
... may I ask why there are no wild turkeys around your area? Is it not their natural environment or is it because there have been too many Thanksgivings there?
i don't know what the traditional greeting is or when the big day is so all I'll say is "Happy Thanksgiving!!!"
welcome back to blogland. The answer on the wild turkeys depends on the size of the area. They do live in Illinois but are not common in the populated areas around Chicago. I have seen them in more rural areas like Missouri. I find it interesting that coyotes are starting to show up around Chicago. The big T-day is Thursday in the US and your greeting is the common way we say it. thanks
No I found this picture on the internet. Thanks for browsing over and sharing a comment.
wow that is big mistake to make. Thanks for sharing the story. I guess even some companies are honest too.
I do believe, too, that most people are decent. It's just the bad ones who get all the publicity.
yes that is too bad except when it warns us. thanks
