barbie message what about ken

Yes finally!  I found the above picture years ago and I knew I would be able to get a blog post out of it someday.  I never cared for Barbies but troll dolls were cool even way back in the late sixties.

So did you hear about this controversial Barbie doll?

Some Barbie designer (who are these people?  Didn't make it in the real life fashion biz?) produced an inked/tattooed Barbie.

Don't be too worried about your impressionable girls getting a hold of one.  They sold out quickly.  According to reports the doll was produced for the adult collectors.  Ok I understand collecting old Barbies but buying new ones as an adult?  I have better uses for $50.

Sending the wrong message to young girls?  Honestly if you worried about that type of thing why even let any type of Barbie doll in the house.  I would be more worried about the "normal" Barbie giving my daughter the desire for a boob job.  (IMHO a boob job is even a dumber idea than some ink job)

One possible advantage of this would be the lesson of watching the tattoo wear off with age.  Now that lesson would take awhile unless you borrow my portable orbital sander.

Now from my experience with raising daughters (also noticed with granddaughter) the Barbies are most often found naked.  At least the tattoo distracts you from the thought she has been running a nudist camp in the toy box.

athletic Barbie - do you think her hair gets messed up?

This was fun.  I hope you enjoyed the trolls roasting Barbie as much as I did.

Oh, no word from Ken on this latest development.

Oh BTW, Lisleman is still collecting Left-over Laugh posts on his LLL#4. (please tell me why I am writing this in the third person??)

I can’t blog

I'm pretty sure they knew those tattooed Barbies would be snatched up right away. I don't even think little girls would find that interesting. Tattoo appeal comes when they're a little older!

I'm so glad you found it - that cracked me up!! I confess I loved my Barbies, but I also had a great collection of trolls - and still do! (Closet hoarder.) But they aren't collectables - all lovingly worn out.

Yeah, I think Barbie gets too much credit. I loved playing with Barbies but I agree if we're gonna get picky, her body type is so not normal. People just want something to stand against, you know when Britney Spears is busy doing other things.

The tattoos appealing to even younger kids is what has some worried.  There has been some overreaction and the actual kids playing with them might not be interested.  But on the other hand, I would not want to see them come out with one that smokes and comes with a carton of smokes.
thanks

Even your worn out trolls are probably worth something.  Collecting old toys makes sense but I don't get collecting brand new ones.  Thanks troll doll

So this is Britney's fault.  Are you sure it's not Lindsay's fault?  I thought she was the top bad girl.  Do you think there are too many whiners?
thanks

Ya know, I've never heard people complain that their little girls look up to LiLo but I have heard the complaints about BS, of whom I am a fan. Yes! I think there are too many whiners. Save your breathe, teach your daughters to love themselves, how about that?

Barbies don't grow old, how about that.

If the tattoo is on the back, you wouldn't be able to watch the tattoo gradually fade only someone who's "got your back".

they don't show emotion either - very plastic those Barbies

The collector site linked in the post does show other pictures of the doll.  There are some tattoos on the upper arms and around the neck.  About your idea - what about mirrors?
thanks

I guess it depends where it is on the back part of the body. And you would have to have a full length mirror. Or stand on a chair in front of a mirror hanging on a wall or the mirror in the medicine chest. Or use a really large hand mirror unless you have perfect vision. Ha, how did I get going on this?

That picture reminds me of Toy Story 3. :)

I'm not sure about the tattooed Babie. I'm sure Mattel knows how to rake in the cash there.

The toy story movies were great.  Yeah the Ken character was so vain in that movie.  thanks

(this might show up twice - seems to be a problem with the comments)

Well at least it wasn't a tramp stamp.

Love how they are trying to make Barbie cool again...must have ran out of careers for her!
I had those trolls back in the day!

Yes that would be hitting bottom or showing bottom?  Barbie I thought was suppose to have some class.

I can't say I ever thought Barbie was cool.  Certainly many did.  When I think about it (this might be the first time for that actually) she was a good example of a high maintenance chick.
thanks

Talk about an overreaction! I guess these people don't let their kids have temporary tattoos or face painting, either.

I'm not a super-tattooed lady, or anything, but it's not like having a tattoo makes you a horrible person. Some of the nicest people I know have tattoos (both tasteful and WTF-inducing, but either way).

It's not toys that teach kids values, it's parents.

Your last line is so true.  If fact smart parents are able to take offensive things and turn them into discussions and lessons for their kids.  thanks

This is a funny post. At first, I thought, "omg, did he take the time to stage that photo?! Time to get a part-time job (besides blogging),haha."

Here's an article about Barbie that should interest you:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7920962.stm (sorry--I don't know how to hyperlink inside comments)

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for not mentioning me in this post--I absolutely hate being called Barbie (except by my mom). One of my student's parents calls herself Barbie, and I can hardly stand it--She is a frumpy, middle-aged woman, and it just seems so SILLY. I call her Mrs...

Barbie (tease reaction), you are right that is a very interesting article.  Multiple universities STUDYING a doll - really?  Will that bring us world peace?
Oh what if you scaled up the troll dolls?
Stage the photo - that's so funny.  How would I ever explain that setup to the family?  Off to the looney bin.
Thanks for the comment.  It had the added benefit of prompting me to post about names.  Oh I have the same problem with a 'y' on the end of my name.
