fun camera settings

Last Christmas we got a new point and shoot digital camera.  Its a Canon PowerShot and since they are popular you may have used one.  Very compact and takes great pictures and movies.

The camera comes with the typical preset settings for indoor parties, outdoor sunshine, etc.  But I was surprised to learn it had a few settings that were totally new to me.  I would call them special effect settings.

Today I'll show a few shots using the "miniature effect" setting.  The result should look like picture of a miniatures in a diorama.  I think it works well if the subject is framed just right.  Take a look and let me know what you think.  Thanks.

Of the two car pictures, I think the second one looks more like a miniature.   (oh you'll notice it's getting green in MI. finally)

If any of you have taken some photos with this setting please let me know I would be interested in what you learned about it and seeing the photos.

I love my canon! It's a terrific camera and idiot-proof for those of us who are photo-challenged.

How interesting. I've never seen that setting before.

I agree with you on the second car shot, but part of it might have to do with the space you allowed for around that vehicle in your shot; it allows for more perspective.

I haven't posted SIMC shots for a while--The scratch on my lens makes me want to cry. Maybe for Mother's Day....

My Powershot was stolen before I really had a chance to learn how to use it. I have an Ixus point and shoot now that I really really love. It has a colour swap function that is fun to use.
Happy SIMC, have a great week

stolen camera - that sucks - did it have pictures/memories in it too? I have not tried the color swap or B&W features yet. The next one on my list is the panoramic setting.

One other difference on the "better" shot was the angle. I was able to get up higher on that shot. People would think I'm nuts (some do already) but I should try going up on a step ladder and take a shot. Just to share another sad story about cameras - one of my daughters broke her fairly new camera at the start of her trip to Peru. Things happen? Thanks.

you certainly take good pictures from what I've seen on your blog. I'm interested to see how it works for you.

very cool! i got hubby a Canon Powershot for his birthday last December. I'll have to check to see if it has this setting. I think both shots look Lilliputian to me!

I agree the second looks best. I think because the car doesn't reflect the light as much. So may have something to do with angles.

That second shot really does look like a miniature.

I took a look and the one with the wagon looks really good. Part of the trick, I guess is setting the out-of-focus line at the right place. thanks

I have so many dang features on my camera my grown kiddos won't even touch the thing. I haven't even begin to use a portion of 'em. I do love the effect it gives.

God bless and have an amazin' day Man! :o)
