time at the hotel california

I don’t want to mislead you or string you along.

I would not want to give the wrong impression (have you ever tried doing impressions - not easy). My last post had a pop quiz question at the end. Why is a sudden unexpected quiz in school called a “pop” quiz? It has nothing to do with soft drinks or pop stars unless you are taking a class at PepsiCo or Disney.

Oh what was I getting to?

Oh yeah, that quiz and the resulting points. Hopefully, the readers scoring points got their reply messages and know they have points (you don’t expect me to keep track). Now if you read this blog and don’t comment how are you ever going to make anything of yourself? Really. You will only get points if you play along and in blogland playing along means commenting.

What, do you live in a barn?

Don’t leave the comment section open.

Pay attention. This is not important.

I’m not promising anymore quizzes with points but I think I might be able to do a few more, if you’re good. Here’s the problem.

What you don’t want to hear my problems? Why on earth are you reading blogs if you don’t want to hear problems?

Ok the problem - I don’t know what value to give the points I have awarded. Maybe they are like those stars I got in grade school. I never got to cash those in. Well I don’t remember cashing them in.

More like all the 100’s of thousands of points I got playing Pac Man during the early 80’s. I can still hear the sound of those little ghosts going down. So what should I do with the points. Actually I know what to do - give them away. The bigger question what can you do with the points. Start an exchange market with them. Trade them.

All I have come up with so far is the name. “A-Few-Clowns-Short” points.

I’m not making any commitment here (how many times has some guy said that?) but here’s another musical quiz question for points.

Oh just a note - I could hid the comments by turning on moderation but since this is really for you own satisfaction (yeah I can’t get no either) I’m not going to bother. So if you don’t want to be surprised by the answers that maybe in the comments, think of the answer before going through the comment section. You know, it’s like the quiz in a newspaper or magazine where the answers are printed upside down or on another page.

1) What was the last year the hotel California served wine?
2) According to the madman, you could check out at anytime but what can you never do?

They called it a pop quiz because the teacher would pop it on you out of nowhere and your dad wouldbpop you if you didn't do well

Maybe it should be a blue quiz since it was out of the blue and possibly made you blue. thanks

1969 and you can never leave; handle the points like they do on Who's Line is it Anyway".....the points don't matter.

I like that show even though I have not watched that often. I think it's just in reruns now. But you are very right about the points. However you can add two more great a-few-clowns-short points to your virtual piggy bank.
thanks.

Well, I'm not going to peek at anyone else's answers or listen to the song but I'm guessing they last served wine in '69 (why? ... because it rhymes) ... and according to the madman you can't leave? ...

... damn, now I'll have that song running through my head the whole day ...

I'm impressed with your logic in figuring out "wine". I had not thought of that. Not only are you being awarded 2 a-few-clowns-short points BUT you are the FIRST one from Namibia to receive these points. I think you might be the only Namibian visiting a number of blogs. thanks and it's a good song to get stuck.

They haven't had that spirit here since 1969 and you can check out any time you like, but you could never leave.

I love, love, love that song! I listened to it four or five times over the weekend. The live version is my favorite. It's a summer tradition to play Hotel California at the yearly opening of our back porch bar.

I got half of this one - you can never leave. Is the first part 1959? Only because "nine" rhymes with "wine" and it sounds right in the song.

City girl still doesn't really "get" the "do you live in a barn?" joke. How sad is that?

lisleman said...

Not one of my better joke attempts. As kids if we left the door open we were often asked if we lived in a barn. I didn't grow up on farm and other than hunting didn't spend much time on them. I guess barn doors are typically left open. - Yes you get 1 point and the year was only 10 years off. But I'm impressed with the rhyming idea so I'll give you a half a point for a total of 1.5 points. thanks

Hey you get 2 points - perfect score. Summer tradition - that's cool. Porch bar now that's even more interesting. Maybe everyone could use these points at your porch bar. Oh, extra points for you singing the song and submitting a youtube clip of it. thanks

1969, leave

I just read the last post, but since I knew that song, too, I didn't bother looking at the other comments.

lisleman said...

Oh I certainly trust you on not cheating. Really why would anyone bother to cheat for points that don't have any known value. You have now been rewarded with 2 more a-few-clowns-short points.
thanks.

1969 and you can never leave! :-)

oh, and as far as pop quizzes go, I would think it's like "Pop Goes the Weasel", unexpected that is!!

lisleman said...

Ok but I have not thought of that weasel for so many years. So Jack was a weasel then?

lisleman said...

Yes - you are now the proud (maybe disappointed?) owner of 2 a-few-clowns-short points. Hold on to them because who knows what they will ever be worth. thanks

They haven't had that spirit there since 1969.
And you can never leave.
That's one of my very favorite songs of all time!

lisleman said...

I am finding out that many people rank this song near the top. For playing along and getting the right answers you now have 2 dysfunctional a-few-clowns-short points to use for whatever you would like, just don't ask me what they are good for because I don't know. thanks.

I just consider them 'cool points', and further proof of my excellent taste
in music.

1969 and you can check out, but you can never leave.

In the movie Meatballs everyone was in the lodge chanting "It just doesn't matter, it just doesn't matter," and I think that's the way you should handle the points. Anyway you want because it just doesn't matter, it just doesn't matter...

When I think of the movie I also have to sing the CIT song - "We are the CITs so pity us, the kids are brats the food is hideous..." well, I won't bore you :)

debbie_suburbsanity said...

Oh that's a good one. We haven't had that spirit here since 1969. You can check out anytime but you can never leave.
Thanks! At least a good song will be stuck in my head today!

I know this one! 1969 and you can never leave. (I don't mind pop quizzes if I know the answers.)

lisleman said...

Good point about the points. I don't recall seeing "Meatballs". I assume it was about camp. When I think of camp, I think of the camp in WI where two of our daughters became CIT's. Oh before I forget - you have earned 2 points for your answers.

lisleman said...

A stuck-in-the-head song and 2 meaningless points - today's is your lucky day. thanks

lisleman said...

Knowing the answers is always key. Congrats you have earned 2 points. thanks

Kristin_The_Goat said...

"Meatballs" (1979) Starring Bill Murray and yep, it was about camp - but mostly it was Bill Murray being funny :) Thanks for the points!
