tickle me Katy

Elmo has a dilemma.

He’s losing audience because he performing with young singers who are too sexy for his street - sesame street. The outcome being his hard work not being broadcast. Maybe he needs a new agent.

Too sexy? Well that would be in human terms because perhaps you failed to notice, but Elmo performs in the nude. His body is fuzzy enough to pull that off, I guess.

I found the clip of Elmo and Katy Perry do a parody of one of Katy’s hit songs, “Hot N Cold”. I really don’t understand the problem with it. Yes Katy could be considered eye candy for some but she doesn’t do anything suggestive in the skit. She is singing a fun song with a puppet. Having her on show would attract more dads to watch the show with their kids.

If they keep this up they will be able to produce “Sesame Street Uncut”.

(NBC)

“Today’s show is brought to you by the number 38 and the letter double D”

Did you see Katy on SNL last weekend?

Now had she worn that outfit on sesame street then I would understand pulling the skit from the programming. But she didn’t. A cute young thing like Katy might be considered sexy in anything other than a burqa.

Hopefully this SNL clip below will work (it might start with an ad). I was having some trouble getting it to work but if you didn’t see it they make a great point at the end. You can watch it on SNL’s web site.

These ladies are funny.

"Who cares if kids are looking at boobs - boobs feed babies, alright?  I see 'CSI' last night and there’s a dead guy with worm in his eye - and we can't watch the top of boobs? So dumb, America."

There will always be people who complain about things. Everyone has their own set of standards, and not everyone sees things the same way. I think the Elmo video is cute, but I can see where some people would think her clothing is inappropriate for that kind of show.

I don't know too much about her and really why should I. I thought she acted OK on SNL. The Hot N Cold song sounds OK.
But that's OK if you can't stand her. You probably know something about her that I don't.

I don't care one way or the other but I'm sure there are a thousand pop stars that can sing WITHOUT any controversy. I think the whole thing worked out EXACTLY how they planned it. Free Press. W.C.C.

Sadly I couldn't get the SNL video to play (not even on the SNL website) but just from the Sesame Street vid I can see that she's gorgeous - I must confess I had the hots for Tina Fey on SNL ... something about women with specs ...

... as for boobs ... here in Africa they're not such a big issue ...

I watched this a few days ago, and the clothes and stuff just reminded me of a short Belle from Beauty and the Beast. The one thing that I really got was Katy Perry was having a lot of fun and this is why I have no problems with it: it was someone that was really playing and being as big of a kid as the ones that would have watched it.

The whole controversy is this woman makes a living selling sex to kids. She has her shtick and it works for her. Is the costume she wore appropriate for a 2 year old? Not really, but neither is half the clothes the mothers wear of the kids that watch it either.

So you think they planned to have it cut from the regular broadcast. I don't know, but I could think of more outrageous stunts than singing with Elmo. We seem to live in a period when controversy can be sparked by the littlest thing. Lots of controversy but very little discussions about the underlying problems.

Yeah the copyright laws create that viewing type problem all the time.
Tina Fey ? Are you a fan of 30 Rock?
boobs - you statement says much about our culture. Some of these Puritanism views heighten the desire for things that should just be a natural part of life.

Thanks for this insight. I'm unaware of the background on Katy Perry but I do seem to remember a song "I kissed a girl". Now I'm thinking that because of her background story people who dislike her reject anything she does. It reminds me of dislike some had for Jane Fonda for many years. I know these two celebrities are very different but maybe the reaction of the public is similar.

The dress is a little low cut for a children's television show, but didn't Sesame Street provide her wardrobe for the video? You would think they could have anticipated the reaction they would get from parents.

I don't know. I don't find her sesame street outfit much different than the outfits worn by the Radio City Rockettes which I think is a children's show. Now dancing with the stars is much more revealing but maybe no kids watch that.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

From the few comments here I'm thinking many of you don't care much for Katy Perry. Like I said I don't know too much about her. Is she going to be the next Britney Spears train wreck?
Maybe they should use her image for this idea?

I don't really mind her and I like her music. I let my 11 year old listen to her, and I own the CD she put out (although right now, it might be in my son's room).

I think a lot of people kind of want her to be a train wreck. Part of the problem is some of the crap that she says in interviews. She is a self claimed media whore who will do anything for attention, and makes an effort to be as weird and out there as possible. Her first single, Ur so Gay was highly offensive to homosexuals and the defense she gave was possibly worse than the song. Then she came out with I Kissed a Girl as pure shock pop...after trying to be a Christian singer (where she DID get good reviews) and people didn't respond well to the insta-fame and loss of morals she has presented to get it.

I'm not a huge fan of her music, but I don't really see the big deal about her Sesame Street appearance. We see more than that on TV and in print all the time. I think the constant barrage of ED commercials are way more offensive than some boobs.

I don't get the big deal about this. If I wasn't LOOKING for it, I wouldn't even notice her boob jiggling, and I'm certain that my 4 year old would NOT NOTICE at all. People are too sensitive.

thanks - I agree. We have too many Puritanism views left over from the days of the Salem Witch trials.

update - another youtube embed problem - damn lawyers - the clip was taken down but I found another one and I think it might be an "official" one. We will see.
