Since my last "where's the clown" challenge, a blogger a half a world away, Ocean Girl of Live High, posted her "where's the clown". If you are interested in how this game is going - check out my page.
In this picture I was just a little clown. I still remember some of this trip. It was one of those classic family road trip vacations.
Here's the challenge - guess the location
Also, I'm borrowing Ocean Girl's idea of guessing the year too. Rock and roll was new and soon to become a big cultural influence but I didn't know it yet and neither did my parents.
Just give your guess in the comment section below. I'll add hints as the guesses come in.

I have no idea!! Out west somewhere?
Loved your comment tonight! You cracked me up. Thanks.
you know for being the first comment I was thinking about sending a small t-shirt like the one in the picture. But that was just crazy thinking.
sorry but "out west" would be wrong - well except if you were east of the place then I guess it would be west but you need to be more specific.
Come back after you have eaten some more ribs - I'll give you another chance.
thanks
I'd say Oregon in 1983.
I'm gonna say Virgina in the late 70's!
Illinois 1955
Vancouver 1964...
no - the guess is too far west and not back in time enough
location close but not the date
date is close but not the location
that's a nice place (assume the BC place) but not the right one - too far west. date is close
I'm so lousy at this game I almost stink. I'll guess Lock Haven, PA. As far as the date: you've told two people that 1955 and 1964 is close. You must have been a little boy for a long time. I'll split the difference and double down: 1960.
good to see someone reading the comments. Your time guess is the closest yet. I don't know anything about Lock Haven PA. Probably a nice place but not one I've been to.
I have no idea, but I dig the shirt...Hopalong Cassidy!
What a treat to see you as a little clown!
Skyline Drive, around 1962
yeah wish I still had it. where did all the cowboys go?
thanks - still soaking in the FL rays?
No but what skyline drive? That sounds like a place you used to go parking or something. Not too far off on the date.
OK, I'm going for the Kitchenuhmaykoosib detention centre for clowns, 1967.
wow a detention center for clowns - that would be fun to tour.
VA is close but now your time guess is further off. Hint if you are still guessing - read all the comments
Here's another hint for those that browse the comments - Not back then but now there's a place nearby started by little lady height wise but large otherwise who's name rhymes with Holly.
Let's see how old are you now, how old are you in the picture, forty years ago? 1970? You said close to 1960, so I give three more years, 1965.
Location, your new hint, I don't get, looking at the landscape and since you said it is not in the west, I say somewhere in Virginia.
You must be quite a kid. I enjoyed the glimpse into your childhood. The era and aura of time was fun and casual. People wore checks shorts.
1963
1961. But I'll be darned if I know where you are, even with your "helpful" hints.
Yes the year was close to 1960. It was 1959. The hint would make sense to country western fans even though this successful performer has done pop songs too. She starred in a hit movie called 9-to-5.
Charlie I decided to finish the year guessing, it's 1959. My hint provides little help to people who are not familiar with that area of the country. Virginia is not the state but it borders it. If you are still interested in guessing be sure to read the other comments.
You have to be close to Pigeon Forge, TN.
Oh that's getting very close. Depending on the season and traffic I think that's about an hour away.
Thanks for guessing and coming to visit A Few Clowns Short
I read all the comments and I think the year is 1959 the place is someplace where Dolly Parton lives or lived. Nashville, I know that isn't right but I don't know country music or that side of the country.
Yes. You were the first one to get the Dolly Parton hint. She has a place called Dollywood. It wasn't there in 1959 and it's down the road from this place.
Regarding the picture and your post - Please use it. You could say I survived a car trip/vacation with my older brother and sister. We drove from the Chicago area to the Smoky Mountains.
Here's another post about the trip with a few more pics.

Hey now, I DID get the Dolly hint, even if I didn't say it, and scarily I knew that Dollywood was there which was my guess. Can I make a mean face now?
We go back home tomorrow.
Skyline Drive in VA. This looks like an overlook. 1963.
