no sympathy

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, FOUR years
Stole many a man's soul and faith
Yes, I've been watching the RNC coverage combined with some listening to lyrics of my favorite songs.

(please note most all my posts are non political but certainly not this one)

According to Wikipedia Thugs from the Thuggee cult

The Republican strategists attempts to polish up mean Mr. Mustard’s image enough to reassure swing voters that he is OK enough was on full display. In other words, asking for sympathy for the devil (more about the devil part later).

The week before I watched the DNC coverage. I watched both on the PBS channel. I enjoy the commentary. I used the mute button more with the RNC coverage.

So Trump got his name in fireworks over the Washington monument. That should be enough. Resign now it's not going get better Donny John. Oh, spelled out in fire, the devil? Oh never mine.

As I checking the lyrics to the Rolling Stone's hit song, I came across this line:

And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay

I had no clue to what this referenced. Thanks to a bit of clicking on the internet I found it most likely refers to the Thuggee cult in India's past. Some historians believe the British exaggerated the problem to justify some harsh laws in India. I don't know, but it had me thinking of the thugs associated with mean Mr. Mustard. I included the Thugs picture I found on wikipedia.

The devil in the details - a favorite phrase but since I don’t really believe in the religious concept of the devil, I’m using the term more as slang. I do love deviled eggs.

emotion on display

from Fox Searchlight web site

Just as there are many types of movies, there are many reasons to watch a movie. I don’t review movies much here but we all review the life around us. This movie about life’s emotions certainly can draw opinions from anyone with even a small bit of life experience.

Last night my wife and I went out to see, “The Descendants”.

It’s one of the best picture nominees this year. I’m not going to compare it to the others. I just want to recommend it and share some opinion.

The emotions displayed by the actors had me going from almost tears to jump-up yelling at the screen (I was able to restrain myself). The story includes a whole family relationship spectrum.
Parent - child  love, hurt, and concern
Infidelity betrayal and anger
Death's untimeliness
Old age
Rebellious teenager
Aging dementia

As a father, I had many memories good and bad refreshed by this movie.  It's a very realistic story.

If you have also seen the movie please share your thoughts.  I would enjoy discussing them in the comment section.  thanks

two questions for tuesday

If you could start a rumor about yourself what would it be?

If you were granted a superpower, which one would it be?

Please share in the comment section or keep it to yourself because why would you want to control rumors about yourself or grant yourself superpowers. Now if you are really quick thinking and efficient, you might combine the two answers and start a rumor about your superpower.

My answers:
  • A rumor of my CIA agent days including fast cars traveling through the Alps.
  • The superpower of being able to fly without any TSA security screening or confining airline seats.

Yes I know it’s still Monday in much of the world. But you see, now you have plenty of time to think about this and come back with your answer.

OR

Just leave something off the top of you head because what’s the hole in there for anyway?

lawyers, guns, and money

Oh wait, that's a song by Warren Zevon

I found the clip below referenced in a Business Week story on the debate over a tech worker shortage. I must agree with article's description of today's tech job market. Corporations today prefer contract work over permanent positions. 10 to 15 years ago, I don't remember it being like that at all. Maybe it's a cycle, maybe not.

Now I see this video (it was first in the news last June) and I realize that many of the job listings are FAKE. Corporations place these ads to satisfy the requirements before they hire the desired H-1B visa temporary worker. It's all about money.

Mix the money with the lawyers - and someone might pull a gun.

I must warn you that this clip may stir-up some strong emotional opinions.
