the blog abides

Hey Dude!

my "The Dude" picture

I was blog browsing today and noticed a picture that reminded of The Dude (Big Lebowski movie) on the blog, I Can't Believe I'm Not Bitter. The next thing, I find myself watching youtube clips from the movie. I have not watched the movie enough to memorize the script as some people do. Lebowski Fest

Strikes and gutters - that's Dude wisdom.

I thought of not using the above picture of myself since I just used it in a recent post. It is the most dude-looking picture I have. I don't want to appear narcissistic. As we know, a personal blog offers one's own view of the world.

After blogging for years you start noticing blogs going down like beer bottles at a Big Lebowski bowling tournament. A Few Clowns Short abides. I plan to persist and survive the onslaught of smartphones, facehooking and twitter.  I'm sure to have my share of strikes and gutters.

One thing The Dude and I disagree about is The Eagles. In the movie, The Dude gets thrown out of a cab for hating the Eagles. I would have appreciated the good music during a cab ride.

Way before the movie, Mott the Hoople, sang about All the Young Dudes.  Maybe I'm more of a
boogaloo dude.

Strikes, gutters and 7-10 splits, life goes on!

Oh those splits are just evil. I may have knocked one out in all of my bowling days. But you are so right, life goes on. Thanks dude

I like that gutter and strikes quote. I didn't realize there was an entire sentence in that film that didn't have the f word. Did you know that F&^% was said 271 times in that film and the film was only 117 minutes long. That has to be some kind of record. Not that I have a problem with it...just a little trivia.

lisleman said...

I didn't know that. I wonder what movie holds that distinguished honor. I do think the f-word can be overused. Not that I ever overuse it. thanks dude

Cheryl P. said...

You might be right about the overuse but I have found if all the swear words are removed from a movie because of censors, (for example when they show it on TNT) the movie is about half as funny. I recently went to see Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. In an interview Sandra said that if the f word was removed the movie would of been 10 minutes long. It also would lose all of it's best lines.

As for the winner of the movie with the most F*&^%....It's Gutterballs. The movie had 857 f words in 93 minutes of movie.

I confess I wasn't crazy about the movie. It might have to do with that hating the Eagles thing. Who could hate the Eagles?? That's a great photo of you, so don't worry about using it too often. :)

OOPs I stand corrected ...Gutterballs is number two with 625 F****** in 96 minutes. The winner is a movie named F**** with 857 times in 93 minutes. I can't seem to read and retain it would seem.

I suspect they wrote it that way for the laugh. Thanks dude for liking the photo.

I heard of Spaceballs but not Gutterballs. thanks for the research. BTW, Melissa McCarthy is from a nearby town and my uncle knows her parents very well. I have not seen Heat yet.

I thought All the Young Dudes was a David Bowie song. I'm so confused!

That's one movies I've never seen although I know it has a huge following.

I noticed a lot of blogs and bloggers MIA over the years. I just read a post by the Wizard of Otin who reposted a 4 year old post WITH the comments. I couldn't believe how many bloggers from his list were gone :-(

Am I the only one who didn't like that movie?

I think McCarthy is hilarious. I wonder if her parents are that funny. As for Gutterballs movie .....Canadian horror movie released in 2008. There is a sequel being filmed named Deep Balls. Sounds classy, don't you think????

lisleman said...

you are right. David Bowie wrote it for this band. I guess he was more of just a songwriter then vs. performer. thanks dude

lisleman said...

yeah any title with "balls" in it is definitely in a class of its own.

There are always disagreements about movies and other art too. Longhollow commented that she didn't care for it. thanks dude

It does not surprise me that some bloggers come and go. But I do find a little strange when the good ones just drop out. I hope you keep your good blog going. I noticed you don't go crazy trying to post too often. I think slowing down the posting activity is a fine way of keeping the blog time in control. thanks dude

But didn't he sing it too? Or maybe he just sounds like them.

lisleman said...

I don't know if he released a version. I suspect he would have. Easy enough to check.

Bijoux said...

As my husband would say, "if there was only a way to look that up..... "

lisleman said...

The wikipedia page for the song says that David Bowie performed the song on his tour and much later it was finally released.

Never saw the movie, so I can't speak to it.

lisleman said...

I think you would like it but its different. Do you like any of the other Coen brothers movies, i.e. Fargo?
thanks dude

Thanks for doing the leg work on that one!
