But a guy is soon closing a deal to acquire almost a whole island.
I have questions.
I would like to know who owns the remaining two percent. Are they also in the one percent club? Doesn’t really matter because they are in a unique two percent club now. If I washed up on this island (I need to leave Illinois first so don’t be expecting me soon) would the two percent areas be clearly marked? Was this island a depressed real estate market? Where do they list islands for sale? Buying an island would have me very worried about global warming and rising sea level, are you? Were you influenced by the recent movie, “The Descendants”?

Just off the top of the old head guessing -
The new landowner (island chief?) will be keeping a sailboat or two there. Please contact me if you need any assistance in watching your yachts. I have been thinking of a yacht watching career since I read this news.
I was fortunate enough to swim and snorkel across the water from your island. It looks nice from Maui. The Hawaiian chain of islands are nice neighbors to have. Did your island come with nice waterfalls like Maui?

Oh one more thing. Here’s a cost saving tip for the new owner, Mr. Ellison. Don’t bother posting “do not trespass” signs on your 98% but instead provide “this is a 2% part” signs for the other owners and you will save on signs.

Yeah, I heard about this guy but if i was a one-percenter I'd wouldn't leave two-percent - i'd buy 100 percent ...
Yacht watching? ... let me know if his harem needs watching ... :)
harem? I didn't hear about any harem. I don't know about that job. I heard you had to be fixed a certain way to do it. I'll stick with the boats.
BOGGles the mind, doesn't it!
yeppers, thanks for the comedic relief.

Yes it does. My wife still remembers me saying long ago that I wouldn't know how to spend that much money. I've since learned of ways to spend any amount of money.
thanks
I should have gone into yacht-watching.
Yeah but you would need to move to some coast. I've been told the pina coladas can take a real toll on a yacht watcher.
What really cracks me up is that you have THOUGHT this through!!! Now I want to buy an island or at least a small piece of an iceberg!! W.C.C.
thanks - Iceberg - wow, now that's the best diminishing returns concept I've heard.
Thinking the 2% is government property. $500 million seems cheap for an entire island.
It has a great location. Right next to Maui. So what did you pay for your island?
I want my own island. 100% of it. I don't want to share that 2%. ;)
It sure would something if that 2% were neighbors you could not tolerate. thanks
