First off I’ve had better days. The old air conditioner refuses to cool much. It’s hard to chill with our heatwave. Oh, any toasty well baked readers from the southern desert type places - we don’t do dry heat in Chicagoland just the sticky heavy heat.
I don’t post much about the weather but I have. I don’t post much about serious topics but I have. Selecting a posting topic is the topic of the day. Today’s browsing travels found me reading a few posts following the “theme” (or meme) of “Things I'm Afraid to Tell”.

True confessions blogger style
My light hearted you-are-not-serious attitude would have me selecting the above picture for these posts. But the blogger EZ (today was my first blog visit there) offered up a more appropriate button (below) for this challenge. EZ wrote a great post about the challenge and revealed some personal feelings.
Please don’t attack me as being a clueless insensitive jerk (those issues have popped up in my past). No I understand we all blog for different reasons. I’m a big believer in diversity. I would not want a world where we all thought the same way. Bloggers revealing their internal feelings and issues benefit others by offering their group support.
I like what EZ wrote -
“...made a conscious choice to focus on light-hearted subjects and beauty as a daily reminder to myself to always seek that side of life...”
(Ok I don’t cover “beauty” too much but I don’t wear make-up either and I think she might)
But lighten-up because I do believe it is the better side of the street.
Ok I’ll remind you of one thing I’ve mentioned somewhere on a past post. I just don’t care for lists. This “Things” idea is a list and that’s not appealing to me. Of course the bigger issue is why the big deal about a list. I don’t know. I could make a few guesses about fear of failure and procrastination but I don’t buy into blogging as alternative psychotherapy.
In the spirit of this challenge, I’ll reveal one other issue. I struggle in my attempt to find the correct approach to work/life in what I consider the beginning of another phase for me. I can rationalize the hell out of most positions/conditions I find myself in, but in the end that doesn’t provide any truth. Honestly the sleeping position is very comfortable but I don’t know of a sleeping position that provides any income.
So check out the link to EZ’s post which provides plenty about this challenge if you had not heard of it yet.

Loved your last line - I find myself wishing I could make money from just taking my morning walks! lol But on the serious side, I realize sometimes my blog includes lists (I'm a list person) and I divulge whatever is on my mind whether you want to hear it or not. I apologize!! Thanks for coming around anyway!
When the list applies to me is when I don't care much for it. Oh don't apologize. It's your blog and your expression of what you want to share/express. People do get paid to walk dogs but I think it's mostly a city thing. Too bad there is not a demand for philosophers. I read an article written by a futurist and I thought I could do guessing like that. Thanks for blogging and sharing your thoughts, pictures and whatever.
hehe yes, unless you work in a mattress Factory ... I get good ideas when I'm sleeping (or maybe I just dream that they're good ideas) - the problem is remembering them when I wake up ...
Mattress tester - good work if you can find it. I get ideas in the shower. That strange shower in a tree would offer all types of ideas.
thanks
thanks for the tip about EZ. always interesting to read new voices, sugar. i'm not sure what kind of blogger i am, but i do know why i started blogging, it was just to tell my own story. or maybe it was just to meet all y'all! xoxoxo
savannah you're welcome. Yeah reading vs. hearing new voices is a little different. We all have a story to tell. It's how much and what version that's the decision to make.
thanks
I have to remind myself to lighten up, all the time. Hard core heavy posts come so easily for me. I too am trying to make my posts nice for the reader. I think the hardest part for me and new blogs are the long stories with no pictures. I'm a magazine girl, I need visual stimulation.
It could be I'm on the opposite end. I need to remind myself that life has very serious events. I always try to include a picture or two in my posts.
thanks
I don't want to talk about the weather either! My air-conditioning wasn't working yesterday and that made me CRANKY!
Hey I just wrote a CHECK for too much so we could chill a little in our house this summer. I so wish I could keep a little heat from the summer for winter and a some winter coldness for the summer. Just doesn't work that way.
I'm not one for much drama in my blog unless it involves critters. The wonderful thing about the blog world is that anyone can post whatever they want (well, almost). I suppose there is not a lot of depth in my posts ... but then, the blog is meant to be fun for me ... no room for heavy stuff.
Nothing wrong with your approach. The openness and freedom combined with diverse people result in a wide selection of blogs. Like I wrote, I try for the light stuff. thanks
I read the other bloggers post and this is interesting. She is clearly a very successful blogger without revealing too much about her life. What I object to is that somehow bloggers who do not share a lot of information about their personal lives are seen to be unauthentic. I could share a lot of things about my life that would probably get me more readers but even though I am tempted at times I just cannot do it. I started my blog as a diversion from somethign bad that happened to me and to help me cope with serious depression. that period of my life has passed and I am in a good place and happy. My blog represents just a place I can share the funnier stuff in my life not the sad stuff. I think about this all th etime though, sometiems I go to write something more serious and I have to toss up whether I should or not. Interesting post Bill.
Thanks, I thought you might find it interesting. There are so many different types and reasons for blogs. I have noticed many very serious ones. One doesn't need to live too long before death, tragedy, sadness and other serious parts of life are felt in someway. Sharing these feelings and problems with other bloggers seems to be a new form of group support. Did the support of others work for you on your blog? It is good to know you are in good place. We are judged by what we post. Smart people should know that there are many other dimensions to a person than their posts and many reasons not to reveal all. This reminds me of Billy Joel's song "The Stranger".
Well I never told people my problems when I first started blogging. I just blogged about anything and everything. Blogging helped me and back in those days we had a lot of people blogging (I think we must have been on the computer all the time). I just think that sometimes people can reveal too much which may come back to haunt them one day. You have to be a little careful. And you are right, we only reveal a small dimension of our lives. It is such an interesting topic that I may post about this too (and link back to you if I do).
In general, I prefer blogs about people's lives rather than themed blogs. I'm reasonably open about my life on my blog, although I feel no obligation to tell anything other than exactly what I want to tell. Some of it is good, some of it isn't, and it's of no real consequence to me how people feel about that. I also have no interest in trying to round up more readers.. But I have welcomed the support I've received over the years from regular readers.
Other than outright deception, no blogger should feel obligated to reveal more than they want. Honesty is important. I plan to keep this blog on the light side of life so that means many of life's events and issues which are often very serious will not written about. It just depends there is no formula for it. thanks
