fragment fun on Friday

Mommy's Idea

This was the week of the Venus Transit or the tiny black dot that crossed the Sun.  I have a few pictures of the set-up I used to watch it on my last post.

A funny thing happened at the park my daughter and I relocated to for catching the setting sun.  We had shown it to a few people at the small park (mostly just a playground).  We were sitting taking a break from watching it (it moved really slow) when I looked up and notice two young girls walking pass the set-up (I'm guessing tweens).  In a voice to get their attention I offered to them, "Hey, want to see Venus?".  One of them gave me a weird look and stepped up her pace.  They probably didn't even notice the binocular set-up.

Later after retelling the story to my wife, my daughter turns to me and says, "Good thing it wasn't Uranus".

Yeah good thing.

I thought adding a slideshow to the bottom of the blog page would be a good cheap treat to offer readers that scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.  Actually I noticed Unknown Mami place one on her blog and she seems to know what's up so I'll copy her idea (not exactly since she uses instagrams)

So no big deal I'll just grab the slideshow gadget in blogger layout and link up an album from my G+ pictures.  I didn't work.  I tried a few times and made sure the album was public but knowing that this is not rocket science I went looking for a better slideshow.

I now offer you my first slideshow from Slide.ly which is free and full of features.  I really like the ease of grabbing music from youtube.

There needs to be a name for this - really!

I'll throw a suggestion:
Google logo amnesia

You click over to the google search page to find something you want to know but then stop.  Wow, that's a really cool logo.  I wonder what it does when you click on it.  Oh I love the animated ones.

You play the logo gadget and then realize you have completely forgotten what the hell you want to search for.  The hereafter as in what am I here after?

This happened with the following Google logo this week.

Nice Slide.ly - of course I am partial to the shot of the ARCH!!! BTW I decided
to pass on Venus since NASA had better shots but I tried to watch the International Space Station fly over tonight. Sadly I didn't see anything but a firefly and MARS which were both roughly the same size - go figure?? W.C.C.

I love that drive-in logo! So creative.
Totally LMAO on the Uranus crack. (Sorry--couldn't resist.)

Off to check out your Venus post. Thanks for linking up!

You were definitely all fragged up this week.  Wow, what a well done post.

I enjoyed your slide show too.  Of course, I'm very impressed by technology that works, so my opinion isn't exactly a pat on the back from an expert...

I'm having hereafter moments all the time too------oh, look!  A butterfly!

I watched the Venus transit on a NASA website.  You're right - it was slow.

Love that drive-in logo... I have to admit I'm a google doodle addict... I check every day to see if they have one up...

wow I didn't make that connection!  I hope my words were not misheard that way.

lisleman said...

You know maybe it could be called the Google Logo Hereafter.
Gee you didn't need to add the part about your opinion "isn't exactly a pat on the back".  thanks for watching it.

I started watching it over there after the sun set here too.  I found another webcast to be better.  The one from the Keck observatory was more engaging because the small team answered questions and told their personal side of the event.

I really enjoy the logo too.  I don't check all the time.  I did find many of the animated logos like this one are on youtube.
thanks

"fragged up" has a good meaning when you know Mrs. 4444
thanks

thanks - the smiley face was made by a sky-writer at the Oshkosh Air show a few years ago.

blogging from jail - well you might have plenty of TIME to blog in that situation.
thanks

lisleman said...

 Good pun.  thanks for hosting.

lisleman said...

Thanks - Do you have a connection to the Arch?  I bet the firefly was moving around more than Mars.  Of course sometimes the sky just spins.

You have too much time on your hands.
Thanks for all the camera info.  It may be a Nikon.

lisleman said...

It's good to get time on your hands.  I never try to wash it off.  Time is relative - depends on how big your hands are.  The bigger problem is time on my a$$.  That can result in spare tires.
thanks.

hahahaha!  I ended up writing a reminiscing post about the drive in thanks to the Google doodle.  But you already know that :)

Your daughter may be more comically gifted than you.  I mean "Uranus" is right to the point.  However, asking a complete FEMALE stranger if she wants to "see Venus" is pretty out there when you think about it.  Actually, I caught a guy showing his Penis at a drive in once.  He was standing outside the Ladies Room with a hard on half exposed.  I was probably 18 but there were little girls in pjs in that bathroom.  I ran & got the Mgr but the guy had split.

Do you see how I wove your 2 creative threads together and managed to add another memory about my good times at the drive in?

Love your slide show - you make me want to make one with my photos! And thanks for sharing that Google logo - love it!

lisleman said...

Yes a well woven comment I must admit.  If I think about my request on it's own then yes it's sorta odd.  But in my mind at the time I probably made two errors in my thinking.  1 - she had even heard about Venus  or knew was Venus was.  2 - she had noticed the binocular set-up.   The flasher thing at a drive-in is just weird.  Probably 99% of men would not want their genitals shown anywhere in public.  I would suggest one edit to your great comment.  The last line should read, "my strange times at the drive in".

Venus sounds a lot like weenus which sounds a lot like penis. Just sayin

Bearman-Cartoons commented about the rhyme.  I honestly didn't think of that rhyme until then.  In the future I'll put up a sign.
thanks

lisleman said...

thanks - I have only tried this one slideshow and today I noticed it seem to take awhile to find the youtube music.  It's free and I'll try another slideshow.

Hah - I too, am glad that it was Venus.

But you had better look at Uranus before they decide that it too is not a planet :(

Well my goodness, the slide show is amazing. Some of the pictures are so darn good, I am envious of all you get to see. The smiley face in the sky is so cute. The apples and tin cans in art form are great. The statues are terrific. And the architecture, so so nice.

Google is addictive, isn't it? Can you even remember when we didn't have it?

lisleman said...

This might sound like a joke or pun but I don't mean it that way.   I have never seen Uranus.
thanks.

I saw the tin cans in Santa Fe.  Yes Google searching is a habit.  It's amazing all the things we look up or at least say "you should look it up on the internet".  thanks

Very cool Drive-In logo and nice job on the video.  You are far more techno savvy that I am.  I'd still be trying to figure out how to start :-)
Have a great weekend, jj

If you have pictures up on the internet in FB, Flickr, or G+ (some other choices that I don't remember) then it's very straight forward to make a simple one.

Yes the new version moved the login button. It's the big 'D" button. I still get confused. Thanks for stopping by I have not seen your comments around here or the few other blogs I visit for while.

Which is actually easier. If we think of the D.
