first friday of the year

I don’t believe Mrs. 4444 knew what she was starting when she started collecting Friday fragments. This weekly routine has prompted a number of posts from me and others.

Any of you remember that kid movie “Monster Inc.”? I really enjoyed it as I do many Pixar movies. The plot involves getting energy from children’s screams. Wouldn’t it be great if we could get energy from Friday fragments?

 - crank up the fragments -

Recently on a dark night by the glow of my laptop screen I wrote:
“I would rather be up late than start the day early. Sunsets look nicer than sunrises. But right now I’m walking after midnight because this cough won’t permit me lay down. Along with not being able to better control my cough I also can’t seem to sleep sitting up. I have rarely ever slept on a plane.

The forced change in my sleep schedule blurs the days. There’s a cough waiting in the dark shadows. Waiting for me to relax so it can pounce on my chest and throat.”

recent observation:
A McDonalds in the city is very different that the burbs. Same food but such different clientele. I noticed people with extra pieces of metal stuck in their nose and mouth. I learned (TMI?) the older guy over there has a bad back and loves minestrone soup. Good thing I don’t do my web surfing there too often because the sausage egg biscuit and my keyboard don’t play together well.

Added to my reasons for not having a smartphone, this absurd app “I just made love app”.

Really?   I don't want to know.  I should start offering a treatment plan for the Absurdity of Smartphones Syndrome (ASS).   Just because you have a smartphone you don’t have to make an ass of yourself.

I enjoy good craft beer. (oh if you didn’t read it already on G+ or FB - I’m wishing you all a good beer). But I’ve discovered that I don’t like all craft beers. One of my Christmas gifts was a selection of craft beer. I ask for beer every year. I suppose my daughter wants to personalize it with a unique twist. She finds some strange stuff. I can appreciate that thought and effort. It just doesn’t always work well though. I have this really dark bitter stuff now that I failed to finish even the first bottle.

Ahem...I'm choking back a cough. Irritating things. Beer is gross. All beer. Light, dark, fruity. Don't tell me it's not...it's SO gross. And I live in the beer capitol of the world. I would appreciate it if someone came up with an app to destroy all the stupid apps (and I could control it).

always good to have an honest reader.  I certainly disagree about the beer except for any beer with chocolate in it.  The two should never mix.  So you want to be queen of the apps.
thanks

I don't know how well you do with doctors, but when I get the cough that you describe, asking for a cough syrup mixed with codeine is bliss.

And, when you feel it coming on......if you get that same heavy feeling in your chest a couple days prior to getting the cough....take some probiotics Target has a brand 4X Probiotic and I took that when I got the feeling and I was able to fight it off before the cough developed this time.  The very first time ever!

thanks for the tip.  I have found vitamin C helps for me.  Also tea and honey are good.  I'll check your tip out.
thanks

Hm. Maybe you could make some good beer bread with it, though? (see Pampered Chef products, I think)

Enjoyed the Pixar photo you chose for your link tonight--It caught my eye right away, and not just because it was first, either.

I agree completely on the ASS program. I think you're onto something!

Have a great weekend, Lisleman. I hope you're feeling back to yourself soon !

thanks - that's a good suggestion about the beer - bread might taste better than the beer.
How do I promote the ASS program?  I might end up looking like one.
thanks, I'm feeling almost back to normal whatever that is.

I love your ASS app idea for smartphones, that is too funny.  In a strange way, I do think the Friday Frags give energy or at least I certainly get a good vibe from them, looking forward to what will make me laugh and as I'm getting more familiar with each person - wondering how each person is doing this week.

I like beer, too. Salva Vida (life saver) Beer is horrible. It's the Honduran cheap beer. I like Polar Bear Bear but I cannot remember what South American country makes it.  As far as the Make Love app, that's definitely TMI!

Argh, what a pain when a cough keeps you awake, I really hope it passes soon hon. I don't understand app's at all, but my kids certainly seem to.  Mind, I refuse to have a mobile (cell) phone.. there be the slippery slide, methinks!

I agree that you are definitely onto something with you ASS idea!  Talk about people being manipulated into owning something by peer pressure.  I especially dislike the car ad which shows people gauging whether they have reached the wilderness yet, by checking for "signal strength".  Shut the phone off, moron!

Just give me an icy COOR Light and I'm satisfied....guess I'm one of those from the 'other side of McDonalds' tracks.  [kidding]

And I used to be one of your kind who loved late nights/sunsets...I still love the sunsets immensely, but I'd much rather be up and seeing the sunrise to a new beginning.

That cough has been making my life miserable too.

I really liked Monsters Inc.  For some reason however, it didn't have the marketing reach that Cars did...

lisleman said...

thanks - yes I get a boost of writing energy from FF posts.

cheap beer is just that cheap.  We often get TMI.  thanks

lisleman said...

still no mobile - wow you are a hold out.  I've sleeping ok now.  Actually I'm almost caught up on my dreams.
thanks

It is amazing what marketing hype does to people.  I use the off button my cell phone all the time.  thanks

Sunsets and sunrises - best of both I guess.  COOR regular is too light for me but a good amber type one is great.  Blue Moon is another good one.  thanks

Wishing you healthy days.  The cough is mostly gone for now.

I never saw the second "Cars" but the first one had a great story about the mother road (route 66).  Pixar has the best imagination in the business in my opinion.
thanks

I loved Monsters, though it got pretty sad at the end. I heard there was supposed to be a sequel, but I either missed it or it never happened. Charlie, the younger, is a big fan.

I'd like to hear about your favorite beers. Would be nice to get some new suggestions!

Great writing about what happens when you lay down. You have a way with words. My husband has trouble sleeping sitting up as well, which causes fluid to enter his lungs :-/ I told him the other day, "Isn't it a requirement to know how to sleep sitting up to become an old guy?"

I just hate the lighting at McDonalds, it's so bright and open. I prefer Panera or a coffee shop for my web surfing. Sometimes, the music bothers me at the latter of the places. I guess I'm a picky web surfer. No wave is good enough for me.

LOL on the App. Perfect for the Law and Order people to catch "active" criminals. Because you know there's going to be some rapist on there, bragging. So weird.

I am a fan of beer but I don't like the dark stuff. Like Bastard Ale. Ick!  I don't know what is considered a craft beer but I used to work for Anheuser-Busch and they would give us free beer every month and one year they gave us a Christmas beer that everyone except me hated. It had hints of vanilla. Anyway, it became the gag gift of the year and the next to give. Great fragments

I sooooooo share your sentiments about staying up late as opposed to getting up early.  Get well soon.  Vicks it up, baby.

Beer suggestions - my top suggestion is to make sure your children learn what good beer is and then when they are old enough suggest that they owe you one or two.  The best beers were the ones my kids bought for me.  But I realize you are looking for a more short term suggestion so here's a few names
Two Brothers (local but I know you can find them in Chicagoland stores), Fat Tire (I always say Flat), Blue Moon, Goose Island (Chicago brewery recently bought by some big name),  Boddingtons, Moose Drool (cool name but it does taste good), Pyramid (Northwest), Dos Equis.  If I list anymore I won't be able to make to the bathroom.

lisleman said...

thanks - great requirement for an old guy.  I never thought of that one.  We don't need the police getting into checking that app.  The definition of craft beer is small breweries but since the big guys tend to buy the good ones it is hard to know sometimes.

Thanks I'm pretty much over it.  I wrote that a few days ago.  Maybe we are part vampires?
thanks

Hope your feeling better soon....have you tried a shot of whiskey! That new app really hard to believe someone spent time developing that...cure cancer instead!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Even though I am a smartphone owner, I totally agree with you that we (owners) really need to be careful about making asses of ourselves! LOL Oh, and I love your reasons for wanting to be up late rather than early... sorry about the cough, tho!

lisleman said...

thanks - I'm feeling better now.  shot of whiskey - I don't know if I posted about what I tried doing a few years ago to get some sleep.  I basically drank a number of shots thinking it would make me sleepy enough.  Well I still didn't sleep much and then the next morning I had a bad hangover too.  I'm not going that route again.

Good to know you agree.  We don't need more people making asses of themselves.  The world has past it's quota long ago.
thanks
