on the second day

It’s only the second of twelve days of dumb gifts and I’m confused. I have searched various internet resources. Some tell me the “turtle” in turtledoves comes for their cooing noise. Others explain the Latin word for dumb bird, turtur, transformed into turtledove. I’m going with the coo because coo is a word that should get more use.

Two turtledoves are more graceful than a pigeon waiting for food on my deck.

Their lifetime affectionate mating habits explain their love bird references. Ok that makes sense but if so, then their cousins, city pigeons are the street walking hookers of the family. There have been mornings where my coffee time was interrupted by cooing solicitations right there on my own back deck. No concern shown for the neighbors as they flashed their big breasts. At least the red breasted robins keep a respectable distance away.

I, am confused.  Do you have to explain the lyrics?  I have always thought my life is good because a bird shit on me once :)

bird shitting a good sign - is that some traditional belief?  No you don't need to explain the lyrics just write something short using the gift of the day.   I've noticed a number of players telling short stories with them.  But that would involve character and well I don't have much of that.
thanks

yes I agree that's probably the source.
Did you know dropping sauce on your tie is good fortune?  Sure go ahead spread that around.
thanks

thanks good to know you liked it.

Right those manure machines became a menace around here.  The local parks now don't mow to the edges of the ponds so there is high grass and weeds around them.  The geese prefer mowed grass.  Scared of snakes.  You know more about snakes than me.

That was certainly an interesting perspective on the whole two turtle doves thing. Hmm... pigeons are hookers? Well I guess I'm learning something new everyday. Nice job on the 2nd day.

Have you ever watched them strutting the streets.  I imagine them turning tricks in the park at night.
thanks

Living in NYC, I've had my fair share of cooing/pooing solicitations. Nice one

thanks - any city dwellers look at pigeons differently that non-city people.

"because coo is a word that should get more use..."  I'll be sure to work it into my conversations this weekend.  Ha!

Pigeons as street-walking hookers?! Fantastic!

lisleman said...

thanks - I would love to know how you'll get coo to come up in a conversation.  I sure would have a hard trying that. But I appreciate you effort.

thanks next time you see one think about it.
