on the first day

The little drummer boy was cool being able to bang the drum for the new born king. Angels heard on high makes sense. They fly. The bits of Latin mixed into Christmas songs reminded me of the old Catholic masses I sat through while my imagination sought out patterns in the cathedral ceiling.

Snowfalls brought sledding, snowball fights and snowmen (call them frosty). Not much thought given to song lyrics except when we sang them at school. The thought of a partridge in a pear tree never crossed my mind.

Our neighbor back then actually had a pear tree among the fruit trees in his yard. I had joined Dad and my older brother in hunting pheasants. But Partridge was the singing TV family and I never heard them sing that song. Not a gift I would want but then whoever wrote it would not want a snuggie either.

I remember the Partridge Family but I didn't know they hung out in Pear trees ...

I never actually saw the Partridge Family on TV, but I do like the "I Think I Love You" song. Ah, the looooooooong catholic masses. Good times. Those were the days.

I thought you wrote a song?

I do have a parody of a song in this contest coming up.  If you would record it I would certainly be honored for you to use it as your post.  I'll send it to you.

oh the family that shares a pear tree stays together.
thanks

I would be delighted. It can only get better, right?

I never gave a thought to the meaning of lyrics, either! Great job!

thanks - This challenge forces you to think about the lyrics.   IMHO my upcoming posts about this song are all different.

thanks

"while my imagination sought out patterns in the cathedral ceiling" - I used to do this same thing as a kid. Some of these songs are so old that the original meanings are long forgotten by most. -Amy (a fellow BlogFestivus participant)

Very Seasonal. Nice.

lisleman said...

thanks - maybe you're not bitter at times

Yeah a wandering mind can come up with strange stuff while in a boring place.
thanks - browsing over to read yours.

Definitely some good word images of the season ... as a kid I had no idea what a partridge in a pear tree was nor did I care!

Ha, the bitterness is just an act - she's really sweet

Love it! We have fruitless pear trees which is weird to think how they can call themselves pear trees if they do not produce! But needless to say they are beautiful trees and the birds love them oh and my evil MIL gave me a snuggie a couple Xmas ago!! I hate them!

It started without me!  Sorry Lisleman, the pom pom girls arrived late.

lisleman said...

thanks - Well one problem for Americans and partridges is that the bird is not native.  I think it came from France.

lisleman said...

thanks

lisleman said...

Thanks - It's not that I hate snuggies but I think a good blanket is more useful.

lisleman said...

You made it and that's what is important.  I've learned through the years that pom pom girls need some time to get their poms fixed just right.

The LIttle Drummer Boy is my least favorite holiday show on TV

I was thinking of the song not the TV show which honestly I don't remember.  I do remember NOT liking that Rudolph Red-nosed Reindeer show but the song is fine.
thanks
