Who or what is Spring River LLC?
Whoever they are, they collected about $30 million and are extremely good at keeping a secret.
This Chicago Tribune story caught my eye over the weekend. There is a couple in the Chicagoland area who I imagine are very disciplined with their money. They won big in the lottery and didn’t tell anyone except for their lawyer. The limited liability company (LLC) keeps their names private.
But according to the story we are talking very very private. So private that their family including two teenage sons don’t know about the prize. I understand their reasoning, but I could not do it myself.
I would avoid the spot light but I my strong desire to share the happy news would be too strong for my mouth to stay shut. I would invest it and be careful not to blow it all.
Friends and family I believe would enjoy a grand party to celebrate the winnings with me.
Oh if you are thinking, Lisleman lives in Chicagoland and could it be. It’s not. I seldom play the lottery (would rather go to a casino and that’s not often either).
Anyway I’m working on my second million. I gave up on the first.
Could you keep a $30 million secret?

I sure wish that I played the lottery in Chicago.....ya know....so I could have the money?
Wow 30 Million. I can't and don't buy lottery (officially illegal for Muslims) and if by any chance I won, I won't be able to collect it, spend it or celebrate it!
I would just tell my family I won $1 million so they wouldn't bug me for too much
It doesn't matter where you play except that some places do have bigger jackpots. What would you do with the money?

I knew there were various restrictions or religious laws about things that are fairly common but I didn't know gambling was one. I enjoy gambling once in awhile but not too much. It really does have the possibility of getting out of control. I don't believe you are missing anything. It's good to remember that gambling is a big and profitable business and it would not be profitable if the odds were not in favor of the companies running the games.

In Malaysia, it is an official law. So, not much of a choice there.
Mmmmm, probably not, but I have seen enough of those shows on TLC about lottery winners to think this might not be a bad idea.
Yes good idea to stay private but tough to do. I guess people with large amounts of money probably make much larger mistakes.

You bet!! I've heard nightmares of how anyone and everyone comes at you with their hand out. I would want to be free to give where I see fit and not be judged.
The article tells some of those stories. Here's a part of one:

Yes I agree with you but I would be unable to keep it from my family and friends.
Probably not, I talk to much and get overexcited about things. I certainly couldn't keep it from my own children, either.
I've bought maybe 5 or 6 lottery tickets. Just not something I'm into.
Not into the lottery either. With your background I know you understand probability very well.

If it was just a mil, I'd try to stash it away in a high interest savings account and do my best to live frugally off only the interest.
I'm imagining you saying "just a mil" so nonchalantly.
I admire their restraint and obviously they are not going to spend it thoughtlessly, but I could never do it.
"Admire" is a good choice of words. Every situation is unique but I wonder if it is healthy to keep too many secrets between family members. thanks.
Also, as far as I'm concerned money is meant to be used. I mean they can't take it with them.
Interesting story; I'll be checking it out. There's no way Mr.4444 and I could keep such a secret, but it sure would be fun to keep it from him (if I could, which I wouldn't be able to do).
Trying to keep your private life intact would be the problem. Winning a large amount of money changes your life dramatically and from stories I have heard or read many of the winners are not prepared to deal with the changes.
