factual non-fat fragment

Mrs. 4444 is offering her fragment collection service once again.   (American Eagle flight 4444 offers a trip from Montreal CA, to JFK, New York. Mrs. 4444 should ask for a discount if she ever books that flight)

Today, I’m going to skip the various fragments I started putting together and just focus on one story with a few fragments to it.

I don’t care for schedules but my DIL does and this week I was called to babysitting duty. Serving your extended family is kinda like serving your country. It can be dangerous.

Being a little worried about being on time to music fun time at the park district, I gave myself plenty of time. We arrived to an empty room. About 5 minutes later the instructor comes in and says it’s at least 10 minutes more before it begins. We were at least 20 minutes early for an hour long event.

Nap time - things are going good. Granddaughter ate all her lunch, I darken her room, she was rocked while she drank a cup of milk, I put her down with no fuss, go downstairs, turn on baby monitor (I could probably do a post on babycare technology). Over the next hour and half I was treated to her private off-broadway one-kid show live from her crib. She sang all the top hit kid songs.

After this long performance I figure her nap is toast and go into her room to get her ready for the next event on the agenda, pick up her brother from school.

I could not believe my eyes as I entered the room. There she is grinning and still bouncing in her crib - butt naked. She had stripped everything off including diaper. I was prepared for the worse when I looked inside but thank goodness her daily poop was not to come for another 20 minutes. How she creates toxic waste is also amazing.

This two year old tornado looked a little sleepy while we sat in the car waiting for her brother’s school to finish. I knew it would still be minutes more before we were allowed in, so I figured letting her out of the car seat and having her join me in the front would be a good idea. Nothing is broken but she gave every knob, button and turn signal handle a good endurance test. I was surprised as I placed her out the door, she reached back in. What in the world is she reaching for? My eyes caught it just in time - the small handles on the floor that open the gas tank and trunk lid. If it pushes, pulls, twists or turns she can identify it.

As we were pulling away I noticed the emergency flasher going. I had to think a second about the location of that very unused button. I should have asked her.

Sounds like you had a fun amusing day!

It's amazing what kids can figure out. Charlie can open the hood of my car, but I can never find the lever when I need it.

My son used to post coins into the CD slot if he was allowed unattended in the car (such as when we were packing for a camping trip). My husband became quite adept at removing the CD player from the dash to empty it!

You're a good grandpa. Lucky for your DIL you were available and willing to babysit. It sounds like you have done this before. You know about the monitor and you know her schedule. Hugs to you, Grandpa.

I'll put the toxicity of my neice over your granddaughter any day.

Good job to your husband - those dashboards are tricky and not designed to come apart. Long time ago, I had little nieces and nephews put coins into a disk drive on my computer. Looked like a video game to them.

I'll bet you were worn out by the end of the day!

My dad used to babysit for an hour or two every Friday so I could run errands when my daughter was a baby. Once, he decided it was a good idea to push her in the stroller and walk the dog on a leash at the same time. He was lucky to make it back home in one piece!

yes I am. One day is not too bad but multiple days in a row - I would need a marathon type training program. This whole experience reinforces my belief that beyond 50 you should not have children even if the mother is much younger.

At least ya didn't have to look far for entertainment! Oh the freedom of a precious two singin' in the buff! You crack me up man.

We had a grandson that took off every dang knob he saw. Nothin' was left unturned. He's our climber now.

Aren't they wonderful???

God bless and have a magnificent weekend!!!

Oh, boy. I'm not sure I'll be prepared to re-enter toddler-sitting when I get to that stage.

They are wonderful but tiring at the same time.

gorgeous photo! sounds like you might have needed a nap afterwards!

thanks - I picked a picture that shows her squirming around. Yeah, I know it's been said before but the age you are being asked to nap is not the age when you want to nap.

That diaper part gave me a nightmare flashbacks, but at least you had fun the rest of the time. I hope I still have some energy left if I ever become a grandparent - sounds like I'll need it!

poopy diaper flashbacks - now that's a new for me.
