past present future

Past, Present, Future - it's about time.

My my, hey hey
Rock and roll is here to stay

I planned to write an insightful post about time and the reflective thoughts many have during the holiday end of the year season. Our seasonal contemplation of past and future ties in well with the fact that most of humanity lives north of the equator. The shortest day comes and then our days start lengthening once again.  (also you have those year end sales events to contemplate)

It's better to burn out
Than to fade away

That was the plan. This Neil Young hit song popped up on my I-tunes list. I'm easily distracted by good lyrics.  I think this post will just fade away.

They give you this,
but you pay for that

What was Neil Young unaware of good return policies?

And once you're gone,
you can never come back

There's more to the picture
Than meets the eye.

Just think, Neil wrote that last line decades before Facebook where there is more to a person than their profile picture.

Awe, no fading here. Your post may not have gone into deep introspection but it sure did get the gears turning in this rusty brain. If the muse does not fade away I may just have the workings of a new post. Thank you!
Here's wishing you a fantastic year ahead!

Very intriguing post Bill! I have always liked that Neil Young song and it was great to hear it again.
Also a very interesting photo of you and that statue.
You are correct about our reflective thoughts at the end of each year but they usually fade away come January when we begin afresh with great hopes and goals.
May 2014 be an enlightening year for you my friend.

thanks - the picture is many years old now. The cemetery is in Chicago. My wife is a fan of cemeteries. Wishing you a Happy New Year.

Oh how I love Neil Young! One of my favorites. Lol - about the return policy! The king is gone but he's not forgotten. What did he mean by that line? Elvis sightings? (just kidding)

You are probably right about Elvis. The song was written shortly after Elvis died. thanks - have a great New Year

I like Neil Young but that song seems rather depressing. I was thinking I would be going into the light and hovering around keeping an eye on things. Perhaps, I am being overly optimistic.

Interesting statue you are standing next to.

The statue seems to show the creepier side of a cemetery. The song is about the sad idea of fading away, being washed-up, replaced by the next generation.
Your optimism maybe correct. Who knows.

I'm mixed on the issue of fading away or burning out. I guess I'd like to go until I can't, then stop cold.

Fading away is fine with me as long as I'm in no pain and have a reasonable amount of ability (very subjective huh?) left.
thanks
