Just got a call - "so what's up" my daughter says.
"You called me. Why you asking me?" was my somewhat confused reply.
Daughter wanted to know if I could drop whatever and go watch this toddler who she often babysits because blah, blah. Not too big of a deal, if it wasn't on such short notice. I'm still processing the morning coffee, give me a little warning.
I'm not a first responser. Makes me wonder how well fifty-something firemen or EMS people do. One thing about being an ambulance driver though - you get to give people 'the ride of their life'.
Good thing I didn't jump on that request because within 5 minutes I got another call from mom-in-law. She needed some online help with her tollway account.
There was a time in my life that I was on call. It was during my Air Force career. I didn't care for it much except we got to carry a radio with us (before cellphones kids) so that was kinda cool. Also, a parent is always 'on call 7by24'. So there was that. But all my kids can drink now (getting a call for a beer - that's a different story).
So if you are going to run out of gas, have a dead car battery, or get stuck in the snow, please provide at least 24hr. notice. If you're calling to invited me for a beer well give me 30-40 minutes depending how far the bar is away.
Now where did I put that bottle opener?

Hehehe ... yes ...
... and who you gonna call if you can't find the bottle opener?
I hear you; the older I get, the less I like surprises when it comes to my time.
I don't even like people stopping by because they "were in the neighborhood".
@onestonedcrow - I dont know beerbusters?
@maureen - "my time" - you mean we get our own time? I thought that right was given with having kids.
@unknown mami - so if I stop over about 4 today you're not going have dessert or anything for me???
I hear ya! I'm kind of people's "shout out", particularly for music.
Don't call me about astronauts, though. I don't know nothing about no steenking astronauts.
Pearl
@pearl - nice to read a comment from you but I don't follow the astronaut reference. So you get called with questions about astronauts?? I've been called about math problems before.
Kids...bless their hearts, but they are so darn needy at all ages(lol). A parents job is never done and the inlaws...lets not even go there!
Smooches,
Sassy Chica
I've got years until I can kick back like that. Hopefully, Sprite will call me to meet for coffee or a latte. And pay. (I'm opening her tab now..)
@sassy - hmm does that mean you still get a little needy around your parents?
@sprite's keeper - having done that, I will tell you it's a great feeling having your child pick up the tab.
You're too available!
Sometime it's nice to be the "go to guy" and sometimes it's not :-)

Sorry I didn't comment yesterday. I was following a couple of others from FB and found your title to be absolutely hilarious! So I basically started following cause of the title...But Unknown Mami follow U and she is hilarious so I'll put you in my reader as well. As long as it doesn't break from the weight....:)
@sitie bum bum - new visitor great - thanks for stopping by. I went to your blog but unfortunately I can't read that language.
@JJ - interesting point that I could work into a post. It all depends on what they are going to you for.
@allison - thanks for dropping a comment but I thought maybe you would be offering a beer.
@one cluttered brain - talk about titles, your username is good but since it's cluttered maybe it should be TWO instead of one. Break - your reader or your brain? I would not worry about the reader. - thanks
Hmmmm. Pretty clever...I'm not the one brainy or creative one with all the techy knowledge though. I leave that to my blog designer....
I'm slowly getting better...
Yeah I do have a ton of buttons...I realize they need to go on a separate page...I'm still working on that one....
Pssst. your email is not hooked up to your profile..it helps to talk back at everyone that comments to U if it is hooked up....just thought U would want to know that.
Thanks for stopping by! That is why I leave this extra comment.
@OCB - just noticed those initials are close to OCD which is something I wonder about. Anyway thanks continuing the exchange of comments. The email setting on the profile - I thought I would just get more spam by putting it out there.
