what a drag
Hot Rod Gang (1958)
I missed this exciting movie. I wonder what woman that graphic artist used as a model. Her curves look dangerous.
I do remember listening to the Beach Boys and their "Little Deuce Coupe".
I get rubber in ALL four gears. I wish.
My big brother had a hot 69 Camaro that I was lucky to drive a few times. That car could burn some rubber. Maybe I was more practical or just broke, but I had a used Pontiac Tempest and later a Vega (big mistake).
My brother and his friends got into drag racings. His friends got into the actual racing even more than him. He did drag race the car before the Camaro and won a trophy. If you don't anything about racing, one thing you should know it's expensive among other things.
A couple of times my brother and his friends were nice enough to let me tag along to the drag strip (maybe our parents forced him, I don't know). The nearest drag strip was near the small town of Oswego.
Here in the middle of soybeans and corn fields the roar of nytro powered funny cars was deafening. I thought the cool part was walking around the pits. There were some amazing machines being pushed to their limits.
Racing down this drag strip was open to anyone who paid the fee. I don't know the amount but it was reasonable. Back in the sixties they didn't even require you to wear a helmet. No special seat belts. When I recently asked my brother about it, he didn't recall even using his seat belt.
I don't know if the drag strips of today are as accessible. If you know, please share in a comment below.
I found that movie poster picture on blog/podcast site that I found when I looking up info on IKO IKO song.
Matt-the-cat does a Friday Night Cat Fight podcast that covers mostly classic rock songs.
Here's a clip of the US 30 Drag Strip commercial heard on the radio often in Chicagoland. US 30 was in northern Indiana.

heya :) I replied to you at my blog but then thought .. I better come and say hello here as well. I see you've been posting away, I'll have to catch up!
take care,
Bettie
This brought back memories. My family used to go to the Drag Races every summer in Ohio. It was a blast. But I don't remember my mom ever looking like the woman in the poster-- Thank gawd :-)
Have a great weekend.
xo
@Bettie - thanks for continuing the comment exchange. I'm looking forward to your posting catch up.
@JJ - good memories are the best - I don't think any natural woman ever looked like the fantasy in the poster.
hey again, no need to thank me for the comment exchange, that's what this is all about right, supporting our fellow blogger so it's my pleasure to do it.
Funny you mentioned the album with BB & Eric Clapton as I just watched a concert with them on youtube last night.
Have you seen any of the video's with the two of them, Buddy Guy & Jimmy Vaughan?? It is really amazing. I beleive the main track/video is "Rock Me Baby". Check it out if you have the chance.
Cheers to a great weekend :)
Bettie
@bettie - thanks for the youtube tip. I have a crossroads DVD but have not looked up either artist on youtube.
No, most people seem to buy their furniture, or make them from kits. Some furniture can be made easily though... it really depends on each person's talents and their needs at the time, and which look they're going for. Those barber's chairs would be really hard to make yourself. But making say, a bed, is a lot easier. We all tend to make things and buy others, or even swap talents between each other. It's good fun!
No, I'd not seen Bent Objects.
@fluffybricks - thanks for coming over here and answering my question. I hope you come back and visit again.
I've never been to a drag race, but I've been to a stock car race once in my lifetime. I actually thought it was pretty thrilling. Ah, yes the Camaro... whatever happened to the Camaro? Do they still make them?
BTW: I just can't think of drag racing and not think of the movie Grease:)
@vicky - I went to your blog today but i've been having internet problems so it failed before I was able to leave a comment.
camaro i think are still made but they are not the muscle cars of years ago
OMG! I had a white Vega for a very brief period before a boy I knew crashed it.
Stop by tomorrow I'm doing a post that you inspired because of a comment you left.
@unknown mami - OMG I inspired another blogger's post. sorry I find the OMG kinda funny. That vega had a nice shape/look but that was about it's only quality.
I'll stop by for that post.
