They swim, fly, climb, vacuum, explore Mars, and read a book to your child.
They are the robots.
I'm amazed, yet thinking it's about time. The sci-fi writers have been predicting robots but the ones that are similar to humans in size and locomotion seems to sell the books and movies better than say the ones that build things on an assembly line. Like all electronic gadgets and tools, robots continue to get smarter and cheaper.
They come in all sizes and right now it seems the ones that are unlike humans are the most successful. The company (iRobot) that brought you roomba now has a beta version of a companion type robot. There is some info on it on their site but it's not released yet. The list price will $500 which is less than people spend on TVs. It's called ConnectR and has two cameras, microphone, speakers and mobility. It connects via Wi-Fi to your internet connection. Targeted at the traveling parents who want to spend time with their kids while they are on the road. I'm not sure how well it will work with pets. I'm thinking some dogs would attack the thing.
Don't forget to check out those snake robots in the video above - freaky.
