senseless violence bothers me

I started today with other ideas for a post. This certainly is not a complaint about anything to do with this blog or my day. I had a fine day.

Not so for too many people in Boston today. As of tonight's reports three innocent (one child) people were killed by bomb blasts. Many people lost parts or whole limbs. Everyone lost a bit more of our feeling of security and peace.

I'm not closely connected to Boston. I have visited the city, mostly on business. I shared a great weekend there with one daughter that happened to coincide with a tall ship festival.

The news of this senseless violence has bothered me since I read it on the internet.  I wonder why.  I didn't know anyone there.  Maybe I'm just human.  A father who can't imagine the pain of losing a child.

Writing this post is helping me not focus more on the news reports. I will watch more but hopefully it will not be like September 11, 2001 when I turned into a news junkie. (Here's my 10 year anniversary post about that much bigger senseless killing.)

I wish the victims and their families were able to finish the fine day they were probably enjoying. Fine days do get ripped away for you by tragedy.  It is worst when the tragedy is a senseless attack by another human.
I pray the wounded recover quickly, the families find strength to continue their support of each other.

Yes, these senseless acts of violence affects us all in the aspect of eroding our faith and trust in being safe. It always breaks my heart to hear of these horrific acts of violence. I, too, pray for those affected by this violence to recover quickly and for the families involved to receive all the support they need to get through this.

For some reason, this Boston thing has really frightened me. I'm not usually very spookable, I don't think I'm a fearful person. But something about this is just so random and...possible. It's the kind of place where my son and I could have been. But I've found that focusing on the people who helped and were heroic seems to make me feel better about humanity in general. It's all just horrible.

The picture of that poor little kid absolutely broke my heart. I've given up trying to understand why people do such horrible things. I'm trying really hard to focus on those who ran toward the explosions so that they could do something to help.

Thanks for browsing over and sharing your comment. I agree the better side of tragedies are the heroes, and community support shown.

thanks - yes you make a good point. I've been reading about one man who is being called a hero. The story of cowboy hat man named Carlos Arredondo is amazing and sad.

We lived in Boston when I was a kid. I have deliberately avoided the news on this one. I can't bear to think too closely about it.

Yes it is a disgusting end to a fun event. Since you have posted about your dislike for cold weather, it was interesting to me that you lived up north once. thanks

I think we can all relate to tragedy no matter where

Yes very true. I do relate even more when I have been to the place of the tragedy. thanks

I think your reaction was perfectly human and shows you are a caring person who has kids and grandkids. There by the grace of God go we. It could have happened anywhere in the World. It is becoming a real issue here too where kids (of migrants and refugees) are going back to their countries for six months or so and getting trained and brainwashed to become terrorists. That is quite an outlandish statement I just made but it is a reality. I do not know what the answer is Bill but those poor innocent people. Just having a great day out. Pray is all we can do and possibly hug our loved ones tightly every time we see them.
