On the other hand

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

What do I know. Not much, how about you?

Most of the sayings/idioms I have heard and used make little sense. Many probably were more relevant back when they were first created. Join me in sharing a few and far between sayings and my thoughts on them. Please add your favorites in the comments.

It’s hard to hit the nail on the head, between a rock and a hard place.

Waiting for my ship to come in, but I know I’ll get seasick. This would not be a problem except we are all in the same boat and you will smell something fishy.

Come hell or high water I’ll go down like a lead balloon.

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, unless they were only a dime a dozen.

Don't hold your breath, unless you just ate garlic or you just took a dive.

Talking trash - when neighbors meet at the curb on garbage collection day.

Bone up on. I’ll make no bones about it, where did this come from?

not in my book - maybe I should start my own religion then when I say “not in my book”, it would be true.

Close but no cigar til the cows come home, mum’s the word.

When it rains, it pours water under the bridge so you’re off the hook.

Back to square one because I’m barking up the wrong tree.

It's a good thing you didn't say " a penny for my thoughts" as I am drawing a complete blank. I am caught between a rock and a hard place. I guess I will ask my better half to help to lend a hand on this as two heads are better than one. Unfortunately, he told me that idioms are a dime a dozen and if I couldn't think of any, I wasn't dealing with a full deck. He is going to go to hell in a hand basket.

Oohh! Fun!

I bent over backwards so he could get off my back.

I let the cat out of the bag and spilled the beans.

He lost his short because he knocked someone's socks off.

I smell a rat that kicked the bucket.
