an idea is born

We are gathered here today to honor ...

Wait, wait, where is everyone?

Doesn't matter you are here.

A brain cell just fired and now I have this idea. A one post blog. If you were to write a one post blog what would it say?

Actually the post content is not the idea.  It's the comment section.  Do any of you know of Sick Days? It’s a fossilized blog. The last post (dated Sept. 25, 2009) has close to 600 comments (might be over that by the time I post this). So there’s a good chance that some of you know of the blog.

I created a new blog titled ‘I can’t blog’.

Bloggers all hit a brick wall once in awhile. But don’t keep banging against it.   Jump over to ‘I can’t blog’ and leave a comment.  After you do, I or another blogger might come along and help you out or not.   No promises, you might not get any respect or empathy but most bloggers are helpful and kind.  I know I’ve interacted with a few of them.

So this new blog will only have ONE post. (I feel a little pressure here to make it good)

BUT the post is not that important, I’m hoping it will have a string of many sharing interactions - otherwise known as comments. With comments you can interact and not even need to create a post.

Hey now hey now what’s the matter with ya ... get yourself over there and join in the fun.

I added a button (bladge is what I call them) on the sidebar.   Please take one they are free.

I might occasionally take a brief hiatus because of some event going on in my life but never because I can't think of something I want to post. It baffles me that so many people feel at a loss - life is so rich with things to photograph or write about.

Easy for a beautiful secret agent psychiatrist to say. Some days my rich excitement is opening a bill in the mail. ATT always sends their best.

Psychologist, but thanks. :-) (At&T writes to me, too.)

I do know the difference. Too bad you are the type that can't get me drugs.

Oh, I HATE when I get bloggers cramp. This is a perfect idea. I will bookmark it for sure.

Stupid?

Okay, maybe a bit stupid. But you know what they say about stupid... So, be a pal and tell me.

maybe you understand why the comments kept going and going like that battery bunny, I don't get it. My guess it that your 'Sick Days' blog/story created a community that just wanted to keep talking after Elvis left the building.

Was there a goal in creating 'Sick Days'?

Yes, that’s basically it, lisleman. The comment thing just sort of happened. Not to get all pretentious sounding (yeah, I know, no good sentence ever started that way) but it was an organic experience. A relationship was built between a series of bloggers in the threads. (For instance, I had an ongoing thing with bearman about him coming to Hamish Industries for a job interview.) And as it developed so did the threads. We all began joking around, pushing things to the limit, saying pretty much anything in the threads and going off on all kinds of tangents. And we were all having a lot of fun. One of the many memorable ones for me was an ongoing 1950’s detective story that a bunch of writers contributed to. It was great.

The blog was written in support of a book that was, at the time of the blog, making the rounds. But the book didn’t find a publisher and that’s why we packed it in. It had been a riot but it was time to move onto new projects.

I will check it out but the sad truth is that with a posting deadline looming for me every 12 hours 7 days a week, I don't have time to wait for people to help me off the ledge. I have a solution though - I just post unreadable tripe!! Great idea and again I LOVE THAT EYE! W.C.C.

What if I go over there and this I can't blog thing is contagious?

lisleman said...

I'm very happy you checked it out. So far the comments are mostly serious comments about blogging and creating content. I hope it stays active. If it's OK I'll link it on your next weekly comment post.
thanks

Interesting concept.

Amazing. A blog without posts getting over 600 comments. For me, the number of comments isn't the reason to blog. The content of the comments is what makes me happy.

That's a very interesting idea for a blog post. Cool.

Oh my. Just one post. That is a lot of pressure : (
I have been able to blog frequently because I find the children in my life always give me something to say. : ) Thank goodness for them. Other wise, I am pretty boring!

lisleman said...

You are right about the quality vs. quantity valuation. But some of those 500-600 comments (were mine) were interesting conversations. see Mike E-K comments below for more about that blog.
No I'm not just trying to get 100's of comments. I could do giveaways if I wanted that. I really hope that I created a useful place for the group of bloggers that know me to exchange ideas and hang out. Really it could be like a forum but I know many of those exist and not everyone likes the forum setup.
thanks for bringing that up.

Kids are a great subject because one they say things unconstrained and two, adults all would like to be kids again.

I think Mike is being a little humble. The reason he drew a following is because it was damn funny and b/c people could relate to a guy struggling to find love and deal with the jackasses he works with.
