Lucky Penny Luck

I'm not a big believer in magical charms or good luck objects.  I recall having a rabbit's foot as a kid but the attraction of it for me was that it was a real animal's foot.  I remember feeling the claws under the fur.  What I don't remember is any special luck coming my way with any rabbit's foot.

We make or find our own luck.  Luck happens but you can miss it if you're not aware.  You need to be aware, ready and notice it.  There certainly is randomness in life.

So given that attitude on influences of my life's fortunes, I wondered why I did what I did when I found a penny the other day.  I guess it has to do with the location of that penny.

Last post I told you about the Christmas Day disaster.  While cleaning up, I came across a penny.  Actually, it was after ripping up the carpet in the basement room that our oldest daughter used for a bedroom years ago.  I'm not sure how the penny got there or how long it had been there.  We have used the room for storage for a long time now.  Oldest daughter has 3 three kids now and lives in a different state.

I pick up the penny and look closely at it.

It is dated the birth year of my oldest daughter.  I cleaned it up and mailed it to her.  I should be getting a call from her soon.

So do you have a lucky charm or talisman?
Would you keep a four leaf clover?

The four leaf clovers are rare (1 in 10,000 is listed in wikipedia) so I understand why they are special but what's with the horseshoe?  A piece of metal that could fall off and hit you.  What's worst breaking a mirror or getting hit by a horseshoe?

What happens if a falling horseshoe hits a mirror?

What does choking on a fortune cookie signify?

No, no lucky charm, just a lot of prayers.

I think there's a famous quote of some kind, Luck = Opportunity + Preparation, or something like that. Use by motivational speakers.

I am sure your daughter would be touched and thrilled when she receives the coin.

I completely agree that lucky charms don't actually bring you luck. They are a fun supersition. And still, I get a kcik everytime I find a penny heads up or a four-leaf clover. I find LOTS of four-leaf clovers.

It's hard for me to imagine how killing a rabbit and chopping its food off could bring you good luck. Seems like karma would go in the opposite direction.

I nice souvenir for the daughter, and good memories for you; that may be the limit on the luck...

It's just fun, like finding that penny with that date.
If a horseshoe falls and breaks a mirror, then clearyl you should stay off a horse for at least 7 years. I thought everybody knew That.

I keep 2 angel discs in my work bag with my bank I use every day to make change. There is also a teeny cross, a miraculous medal (Virgin Mary), a flattened penny with a heart pressed into it from John from the Franklin Institute, a coin with an inspirational message on it and possibly other things.

When I find coins on the ground, they are hellos from my mom in heaven. That lady found coins almost every time she left the house. I put them in a special basket. Not sure what I'll do with them when I get it filled. It will definitely be something fun though!

Everyone - was it luck or my time spent writing this post that brought me these nice comments? Doesn't matter I agree with the general idea here that lucky charms are fun.

thanks
