satellite shooting and satellite eclipses

If you have been following the news, you probably know the Pentagon plans on shooting a satellite. Sounds like expensive target practice but maybe it would be safer to shoot it vs. letting it fall out of the sky. Of course many pieces are going to fall out of the sky either way. I found this map of the target path up on Wired.com.

The article gives a good description for anyone shooting satellites.

Also tonight (Feb 20, 2008) The natural earth satellite (moon) will be putting on a show.

If it is a clear night (I am sure it will be a cold one around Chicago) the lunar eclipse is worth taking a look at. Since the light is reflected off the moon, its safe to watch.

What would be really cool was if the satellite shooting took place in front of the lunar eclipse show. There is a chance the satellite shooting will be delay because of weather.

it was a good clear night and the moon looked like an orange to me. The cold kept me from watching it very long.
