thinking of changing my name

You know, to protect my innocence. What do you say? It doesn’t work that way.

Instead of Lisleman I thought Lyricsman might be more appropriate. Lately, my posting has been following a musical theme. Did you know you can click on the label/tag music and scroll through my musical discourse. OH, OH, please
beware (for certain followers especially one young lady who knows both Spanish and Creole) that many of my posting are parodies.

It's Not Unusual
My, my, my Delilah!

Today's post will not be a parody.  Today we look at some lyrics and ask why.

In retrospect it’s very unusual that a song about a psychopathic killer would be a hit song. Many of us enjoyed dancing to it. A big-band accompaniment set to a flamenco rhythm goes well with a self confession to murder. For the younger readers that don’t recall Tom Jones, he was a popular Welsh singer. Wikipedia described his Las Vegas shows as panty-hurling frenzy of sexually charged adulation and good-time entertainment. I heard that his manager got that panty practice started when he paid a few audience members to throw panties on the stage.

Oh those marketing types… - now I have found myself side tracked thinking of this. Back to the song.

Now that I look at this album cover the Delilah lyrics make sense

(first we start with stalking)
I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window
I saw the flickering shadows of love on her blind
She was my woman
As she deceived me I watched and went out of my mind

(add a little bit of excuse)
My, my, my, Delilah
Why, why, why, Delilah

(why why why was this a hit)
I could see that girl was no good for me
But I was lost like a slave that no man could free

(sing your heart out as you describe the murder you sick-o)
At break of day when that man drove away, I was waiting
I cross the street to her house and she opened the door
She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why Delilah
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take any more
(those lame excuses again)
(great horn section)
She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more

My, my, my, Delilah
Why, why, why, Delilah
So before they come to break down the door
(and take your body away??)
Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take any more
Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take any more

(he should be added to the sex offender list)

I like he growled out "just couldn't any mo.......re" at one point. I used to love Tom Jones when I was a kid because my mom did and we'd listen to his albums. I hear women throw granny panties up on stage these days!

Oh the borders on TMI - granny panties? Maybe he will start doing the retirement home circuit. I think he has a great voice. His style was over the top but many performers go that route. Do you think he hung out with Elvis ever?
thanks

I had no idea this was about a psychopathic killer!!!

I didn't pay close attention to the lyrics until just recently when I looking at lyrics for possible parodies. It seems when it was a hit we didn't listen too closely to words.
Now a favorite oldie that was about the famous Jack-the-ripper was "Mack The Knife". That's a catchy tune also.
thanks

Wow! I had no idea what the lyrics were about. Freaky!
You could be Lisleman the Music Man".

If you ever heard me sing or try to play an instrument "music man" would probably not come to mind. Yes, after I thought about it those lyrics did seem freaky.
thanks

That's creepy - I don't think I've ever really listened to those lyrics closely.

It's sorta strange that no one seemed to pay attention to the lyrics.

Music Fan Man?

Again, I hadn't paid any attention to the lyrics so I didn't realize that it was about a killer. I know a lot of people of my generation were fans of Tom Jones but I always thought he was kind of sleazy.

He looks sleazy on that album cover.
