take it easy this post runs on fragments

Hey boys and girls it's that time again. Time for Friday Fragments post reading/browsing. FF post central is over at Mrs. 4444’s blog.

If you are a blogger and have not tried a FF post, you should because it’s easy writing. No topic to follow, questions to answer, just write down fragments of thought, life, like whatever (but don’t use “like” in that way, Mrs. 4444 might subtract points).

Hey regular FF bloggers did you notice the new FF button? (See above) I like it much better than the old one which is still available.

A bit of serendipity about that new FF button. Today in the Chicago Tribune (does Mrs. 4444 read the Chicago Tribune?) I just read a half page article about the origin of that phrase meme. Back in WW2 the British government had made posters for their war effort that read, "Keep Calm and Carry On". Thirteen years ago a bookstore owner found one of these original posters in a box of books he bought at auction. He framed the poster and hung it up in his bookstore. Later he started making and selling copies of the poster. Another Englishman, sly businessman took the poster idea and applied for and was granted a trademark on the phrase. (ridiculous IMHO)  There is an ongoing legal appeal to overturn the trademark.

don't get caught with your fuzzy slipper in your mouth

I click my own profile to find my past G+ postings. Today I noticed Google added a youtube tab. Now I can easily find my youtube uploads along with all my G+ babble. Is social media getting too narcissistic?

slow but lasting

“Can't Take My Eyes Off You” is the ultimate stalker song.

oh waterman you're fresh

Recently I texted, “Waiting for her to hold class mouse.”
Story behind the text (I still use a flip-phone so my texting words by phone keypad are kept short

The regular sitting arrangement for our son’s kids went absent due to illness, so we (grandparents) received the call for backup. My first assignment was kindergarten pick-up.

The teacher spotted me as I stood outside the classroom door. She waved me in. She had just gather the kids around to show them the special treat of the week (month?). She introduced the newest member of the class, the class mouse. A cute little thing with cow-like white and black coloring. Everyone had a chance to hold it which takes a little time since the teacher needed to watch out for drops or squeezes. I don’t remember any class pets at my grade school. A school classroom would be a better place for a mouse pet than a home.

he will stop soon the fragments are starting to smell

I benefit from low expectations. Becoming an Uncle really doesn’t take any effort at all. Become a brother and someday you just might become an uncle. Now (again no effort on my part) I might become the uncle of a celebrity. I posted about it here. My nephew, Justin, read the post but didn’t drop a comment here instead thanked me via email. He replied “of course you can drive my car someday!“ So I got that going for me.

(Remember - Please take a moment to locate this planet’s emergency exits.)

"Eclectic"comes to mind here tonight,Bill; you take the cake on eclectic :)

So, I assume it takes a teacher a while to supervise mouse drops, regardless of the type!

Curious to know who humored you with the slipper photo? (or maybe you used a tripod?)

Thanks for linking up! Have a great weekend.

Sexy slippers, my friend! I love the fish photo. I have some salmon flaked and ready for salad in the fridge. It smells mightily when I open the container.

I had just scored a great deal on the slippers at an open market and asked my wife to take a picture of them. Shows I should do more leg exercises. After I wrote "mouse drops" I realized I covered both types even though I think it was the dropping of the mouse from the child's hands that was the worry. thanks for hosting

thanks - I wore those slippers out. Glad you liked the fish pic, I would rather have trout or walleye. I think those are the Asian carp that have invaded the Illinois river.

I've seen that "Keep Calm" meme everywhere, but only knew that it originated in England. We never had class pets. I wonder what the life expectancy is for a mouse?

I don't really understand Google+...I tried to comment on a blog the other day, and it wouldn't let me do it without creating a profile. I didn't have time to think about that so I didn't comment. I guess I need to figure it out since it seems to be gaining momentum. Awesome slippers!

Did you get to hold the mouse, too? :) You're stylin' in those slippers! How cool about your nephew! Hope he comes through with movie tickets for you - and you have the driving of his car to look forward to. ;)

Interesting story about the Keep Calm button.

lisleman said...

Not real sure but I think a mouse only lives a few years. It probably depends on the nearby cat population. thanks

thanks - I didn't know it until I read it in the paper. The article told of two other war time posters. Apparently the whole poster idea didn't go over that well with the public. They believe most of these "Calm Carry on" poster were destroyed by the government who needed to reuse the paper.

lisleman said...

No I didn't wait in line to hold the mouse. I've held them before but honestly most of them were dead already. Yeah driving around a celebrity nephew would be fun. thanks

Hey, I learned something, I believe I have seen that poster "keep calm and carry on" but I had no idea the legal battle behind it!

I am so techno behind, I have no idea how to navigate all the G+ stuff. But that is pretty cool!!!

I follow some famous sports personalities on twitter, does that count? Suppose they'd let me drive their cars?

Great FF...love the slippers and I hated bringing home the class pet remember everyone had to take a turn...never wanted to be the one that had it when it died or escaped! Have a great weekend!

But wait...did he mention the free passes to the movie?? I hope so!

I always wondered what started the "Keep Calm" thing! Very interesting.

lisleman said...

You're "techno" ahead of many that don't know how to create a blog. It's really impossible to keep up with all the apps and devices.
thanks

I'm not on twitter. I gather you can tweet back indirectly to a celebrity by using a hashtag of their twitter name. Well if possible you should ask a few of them about driving their car. You might get a fun response and who knows maybe meet them.
thanks

lisleman said...

Yeah you don't want to remember as the kid who killed the class pet. thanks

lisleman said...

thanks - if your fragments are puzzle shaped then you are also feeling puzzled.

lisleman said...

No not yet. I'm not sure they even have a distribution arrangement set-up yet. I really don't know. Making the movie and then getting the movie shown in theaters are two different things. If anything I might learn more about the process from him. thanks

Good, I enjoy it when a reader learns something here. Of course this bit of information is probably of limited use. If you ever get stuck at a party with nothing to say, you can always bring up the "Keep Calm" poster story. thanks

I really enjoyed the poster story, having seen the posters lately. I love the new button, I really like the color.

I think "It's Just My Imagination" ranks pretty highly on the stalkerly song scale, too. Oh and "Every breath you take."

lisleman said...

I have thought of stalkers while listening to "Every Breath You Take". Good additions to the stalker's song book. thanks

lisleman said...

Yes I agree the new button is new and fresh. thanks

Being the uncle of a celebrity is better than being a monkey's uncle unless it is a famous monkey, I guess.

lisleman said...

hmm there is the "bob's your uncle" line, but I'm not British enough to completely understand. Not sure why "uncle" was the required word to cry if you twisted someone's arm. Finally there is the "crazy uncle". I don't know if I've reached the status of crazy uncle yet. Our kids think I'm crazy at times. It's a mutual thing really.
thanks

That's interesting about the origin of the English saying. I hated texting when I had a flip phone. Now I have an iphone, so much easier. My dad has some sort of smart phone and he uses the talk to text feature. I get so many crazy texts from him and his phone spells my name wrong.

Voice recognition is getting better but it still fails in great and funny ways. It's used on my google voice voicemail and I've had a few really strange one. My brother has fun using it on his wife's phone. He even tried babbling once to see the results.
thanks
