a shot at hodgepodge

In my blog reading I've seen this Wednesday Hodgepodge meme hosted by "From This Side of the Pond".  Here's my first shot at it.

1. With that being said, I think I need to dive right into some Christmas related questions, don't you? Which do you prefer-pretty gift wrap with a bow or a pretty gift bag with/without a bow? What percentage of your holiday gifts are currently (as in right this very minute) wrapped in some form or fashion?
My wrapping is legendary.  Not for being neat and pretty but for the opposite.  If I could, I would wrap presents in newspaper.  I once put a present in a McDonalds bag (it was not greasy they gave me fresh one).  Maybe if I stop by MickeyD's tomorrow I'll have my first one wrapped.

2. What is one item on your Christmas list this year?
regular readers of A Few Clowns Short may remember me stating my dislike for lists.  I will say a Christmas list is better than most any other list.  But I don't really have one.  -  how about peace on earth - hey I'm in a beauty contest.
3. What makes a home?

a family
4. Motown founder Berry Gordy celebrates his birthday today...are you a fan of the Motown sound? If so who's your favorite Motown artist and/or song?
This is an easy one except it's hard to pick just one.  "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye. The movie "The Big Chill" used this song perfectly.
5. Red or green...which one is more prevalent in your closet?
My closet?  I'm lucky to get a closet but I don't know it's dark and dusty in there.

6. True or false-bacon makes it better? If you answered true, what's your favorite dish made with bacon?

What do you mean by "it"?  Bringing home the bacon is always good.  I have even tried the bacon sundae at Denny's (the restaurant not my Uncle Denny's)
7. Share a favorite holiday memory.
I have many little pieces of memories.  The silver Christmas tree, getting too hot in Church, the manger set-up on the piano, playing with my brother, etc.  The whole getting-up early to learn what Santa brought as kid was exciting.  Later with my own kids, watching their excited/surprised faces was joy.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
...it took by surprise I must say, when I found out yesterday... (sorry song stuck)  ...just about to lose my mind -

This is the best one in the hodgepodge list.  You can't get random wrong.

If I were to create the questions they would be much different.  For example if two trains are traveling toward each and train A is traveling 40 mph and .. oh forget it.

Don't you know I heard it through the grapevine.  ohhh

I have another blog friend who does these each week. My answers:
1. Box with a bow, although I don't care deeply about this. But I put my extended family's presents in gift bags and delivered them at Thanksgiving.
2. I am not in a situation where there's anyone to give a list to! But I'm happy my kids will be with me Christmas Eve/morning this year.
3. Love.
4. I'm going with Marvin Gaye, for "What's Going On" and "Mercy, Mercy Me."
5. Green, because I only own a couple of red things.
6. Well, you know I don't eat meat so I have to go with No. :-)
7. Christmas once the kids arrived were magical.

You're in a beauty contest :) Learned one or two more "facts" about you!

I (or anyone) could write the responses those beauty contestants give. Oh no, you are collecting Lisleman facts. Don't give any to the CIA.

thanks for sharing your answers. Only a couple of red things interesting. Yes Children and Christmas do go together the best.

Welcome to the Hodgepodge! I'm a big fan of the whole soundtrack to The Big Chill, but my favorite from that film is The Weight by The Band. Thanks for playing along today!

I love almost anything Motown, but I Heard it Through the Grapevine has to be at the top. We had a silver tree, too!!

Those trees were very popular. Did you have those hot colored lights too? I seem to remember burning my fingers on them. thanks

Did you really use a McDonalds bag? What in the world did the recipient have to say?

lisleman said...

yes she almost all of it. thanks

lisleman said...

Yes I did. It was for the extended family gift exchange game. Even funnier than wrapping - my MIL picked it!

Bacon is absolutely always good. And I like wrapping presents, something about creating nice and even creases really appeals to me. Bows, on the other hand, are disastrous for me.

I enjoyed your christmas memories. It was always really hot in those churches.

I liked your answers especially the the "what makes a home" Perfect answer!

What was the gift that was put into a McDonald's bag. A cheeseburger??

I am fairly comfortable that bacon might be good in a lot of things...a sundae isn't one of those things I would want bacon in.

The short answers can be the best. It was a collection of a few lame gifts including McDonald's gift cards. thanks

lisleman said...

Yeah you get all bundled up and then squeeze in with lots of people. It's certain to get hot. You don't save the wrapping paper or bows do you? I always thought that was crazy.

OMG!! Very funny indeed!

That was fun Bill. your wrapping does sound legendary and matches every male I know. I love beautifully wrapped presents and some of the best can come in brown paper with beautiful ribbons. And no, brown paper does not mean a McDonald's bag but what a lot of fun anyway. Newspaper would be ok too but just put a lovely bright ribbon on it. I want you to let us know what you wrap the presents in this year.

lisleman said...

Are you saying that you care about the wrapping of presents you or not giving or receiving? Maybe it is a gender thing. The wrapping is only there to conceal the surprise in my mind. I think the world would be a simpler place without women but then it would be too plain and dull.

HA Ha - yes I like receiving nicely wrapped gifts (it can be creative though and newspapers can be creative). And I liked giving nicely wrapped gifts. But that is women for you.
