don't browse on by

Do you ever go looking into the youtube for your next post idea?  Many many many nights go by without an idea.  Youtube has changed my life.  (have you seen any of my youtube clips?)

TV past is well represented on youtube.  You can watch many of the first on-air performances of the fathers/mothers of rock-n-roll.  As I was browsing I came across a song title that conjured up a fuzzy memory.  The song "Baby Its You" was written by Burt Bacharach. A group called Smith performed it on some sixties TV show (I'm unable to identify the show).

Of course the fashions are fun to look at in these old shows.  The lead singer looks great and at the time I would have thought she was hot.  Even though the song sounds familiar I don't remember the band at all.  Looking at this today, I can't help but notice the dumb looking headband she is wearing.  Honestly, it reminds me of a big metal clamp used on engine hoses.  Great voice - bad headband.

(hmm do to lawyers and copyrights the clip I had post here can't be shown here anymore. The other similar clips of their performance don't allow embedding into a blog. Here's a youtube link if you are still interested.)

I'm not wearing a headband but most morning I do slip on a baseball type hat because of my "bed head".

Before you browse on by, I've got one more clip to share.  Burt Bacharach was honor this year at the White House.  He and Hal David received the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.  They wrote many great songs.

Enjoy a favorite singer's performance of "Walk On By" at the White House (it was shown on PBS).

I pretty much only go to YouTube if I'm looking for a specific song, and it's a useful tool for that. This particular song - I much prefer the Beatles' version!

Sheryl Crow could sing the phone book and sound amazing! Love the oldies song....especially that one. I hope those crazy headbands never make a comeback! yikes!

I may go to YouTube for the Jetsons, which befuddled one set of grandchildren when it came into the conversation last night. Or not--they need to be out riding their bikes.

Good music is so hard to comeby these days!

The wikipedia page on the Smiths mentioned the Beatles version and another group that did well with the song. I believe the Smiths did better in the charts than the Beatles did with this song. Of course the chart performance does not always match personal preference.
thanks

Headbands - who knows fashions do get recycled. Recycled fashion style is the biggest reason IMHO not to get a tattoo. thanks

Love the Jetsons
Here's a Jetsons' opening clip but it is from Dailymotion.

I think your music tastes are formed during your teen and earlier 20's. Since music trends are always changing because who wants to listen their parents stuff (I know some do), you will always have that problem of finding "good" music after 30 or so. I have found a few new bands and singers but then another problem is wanting to spend time sorting through the new stuff.

That headband really is pretty ridiculous, but I swear I see girls wearing similar things these days. Not sure why!

Why - the mystery of marketing?
thanks

Sorry but Chrisse Hynde's version blows this away (or even Adele's)

thanks I had not heard her version, I'll give it a listen. Is she wearing a headband? That weird headband adds a lot to the clip I posted.
