Fun G+ page story

Recently I discovered a fun G+ page called “Blast From The Past”.

If you are not on G+ yet, you should be because all the cool kids hang out there and you have shown you’re cool because you are reading this blog.

Every Thursday this page collects old vintage pictures other G+ members send to it. Actually you just post a picture and add link references to their page. There are instructions on their page. If you like old pictures, you’ll love it.

My first go at this was last Thursday. A surprising thing happened to my entry. Here’s my entry.

Brother and I dressed up for Easter back in ancient times (I had to scan the picture because digital had not even been thought of yet).

Not even an hour passes and I see this picture go up on G+.

I don’t know this person but he references me in his post and we comment back and forth about the pictures. He also had that toy monkey. It looks like a reminiscing monkey wanting to play.

An interesting event that would not have been possible back when that picture was taken and that monkey was still being tossed around.

For other posting of pictures visit Unknown Mami’s SIMC page today.

Amazing! ... did the close-up of the monkey trigger any ancient memories?

Not so much the monkey but the picture with my brother did.  I never did like dressing up.  When I was a teen I would spend the summer months shirtless (got a good tan).  That would be too embarrassing now.

I remember those toy monkeys.

Hmmm. Monkey business? I like Blast from the Past. I don't have many old photos with me in Honduras. I need to remember to play along when I visit my mother in May.

But my whole blog is my old pictures, before such ancient things are forgotten.  Don't want to give away the plot line early.

That's cool!

I am going to have to go back to dig in my mom's house in the old toy box to see if I can find that thing passed down from my brothers.

Fun picture. The whole concept of new outfits for Easter bespeaks a bygone era. My parents also have photographs of us all dolled up, for the moment (very brief moment) spotlessly clean and ready for church. They knew us well enough to not wait until after church for our wrinkled, grumpy (and for Catholics, starving because of no food before church concepts) pictures. I love one of my brother, with a HAT in front of the new family Rambler (ok, who remembers Ramblers?).

Keep meaning to ask, is the SIMC crowd chatting away on G+? I avoided it as somehow, through dozens of id's with intersting names, Google seems to know who I am (that name gets my work persona). Was going to try to create an account with my blog moniker, not sure how long before they'd bump me (I recall Mrs 4444 mentioning issues with the alternate identity thing).

I don't notice much discuss/comments on the SIMC posts over at G+.  But the Blast from the Past pictures had a good amount of comments.  There are many pictures up there.  I understand about the google connections that result in being able to trace back to who you are in real life.  I don't know how big of a secret this is but my last name is not lisleman.  If you read my profile you can figure that out.  I believe the policy that stopped a 4444 last name was changed.  You should be able to go by a nickname such as Mag Pie.
thanks

 Do you mean a monkey?
thanks

Honestly the dress-up thing is still not my thing.  Certain occasions like a wedding but every Sunday - no way.  Yeah starving before Church, I remember that.  I could only drink water.  We never had a Rambler but I remember them on the streets.

The people I know personally who tried G+ have already bailed and returned to FB!

I like the monkey photo.

It comes down to how you use it.  There is very little family on G+ so I use both.  The G+ exchanges are mostly other bloggers and just other  interesting stuff like this old photo stuff.  If FB is working for you and you don't want to invest time in G+ then that makes sense.  People should really think about their time before jumping into these social sites.  Pinterest is another popular one that will take up your time.  I know I didn't say any you don't already understand.  I just wrote a long - I agree.  thanks

Awww, what a cute duo you two made!  I think that monkey is a bit creepy..

yes the eyes of the monkey in the "doctored" pic do look weird.  It looks like he had a rough night - maybe two

I think it is great, that blast from the past.  You and your brother are so adorable, dressed up prim and proper.  The grass is beautiful.

Oh I had a monkey like that who hung off my bed, he had a 'nana in one hand and could grip with the other.

Oh my gosh, I have that monkey, too! Or at least one very, very similar to it. I named it Tommy - my favorite boy name. Ironic I married a Tom, isn't it? lol

You should submit one next Thursday.

lisleman said...

I had a neighbor named Tommy but the biggest Tommy was the Who's rock opera.
