super ads

Are you ready for some

great ads?

There has been great Super Bowl games but there has been a few duds too. The entertainment value of a Super Bowl commercial break is more reliable.  The supply of great ads during the show is a given. The Super Bowl has become an unofficial national holiday.

They should be great for the money spent just for showing 30 seconds of one. NBC who sold out back in November is averaging $3.5 million per spot. (BTW I would sell a whole year’s worth of ad space on A Few Clowns Short for a tiny fraction of that price) Oh, remember that $3.5 million does NOT include the money spent to create the ad. I bet they paid Regis Philbin more than a free Pepsi supply for his gig.

While certainly not the first time, this year we have the largest number of pre-released Super Bowl ads. (I’m including what I think will be a big hit near the end this post) The pre-releases are all done via the internet. Social media can make an ad viral before the pre-show even starts.

We like to be entertained by ads. When we are entertained we like to share the experience. Social media and good ads are a prefect mix.

At this year’s party those know-it-all been-there-done-that types will spouting off
“oh watch, this one is great, wait till you see the …”

Hopefully, someone will cram a dip filled chip in their pie holes so the other guests who prefer to be surprised by the ads can enjoy it.

(warning skip this ad if you want to be surprised during the Super Bowl)

The following ad was never shown during a Super Bowl show but I consider it an all time great one. It has a celebrity, beer, music and a surprise.

BTW I have another blog focused on video clips and ads.  It is named "another circus".

thanks for stopping by.  The second one will not be played.  It's an old one that I believe was only shown in Europe.

I watch the Superbowl for both the game and the commercials, but rarely for the half time show.  Madonna?  Really?  Would she be the first choice of most football fans? I'd doubt it.

she might be OK - but then it's a quick couple of songs a few fireworks and it's over.  Maybe it's hard to turn the $$ down.  Did you asked me?  Well if you did I'd rather see Shakira.  Completely different venue but I enjoyed Madonna's performance on the charity show for Haiti a couple of years ago.  She sang "Like a prayer".

Answer me this, because I still don't get it: why did anybody ever think Joe Namath was Mr. Sex Appeal? (Please, if the word "pantyhose" is about to come up in your reply, don't. Otherwise, I am standing by.)

P.S. I loved "The Dog Strikes Back" It warmed my cockles.

Actually I could use help here because I was not attracted to him.  Now Farrah Fawcett was very hot and her name was "Farrah" which sounds exotic and exciting.  Joe played great football and was in shape.  Large nose but he was probably great with his hands.  Handling and throwing a football that much must give you great skills in holding things.  You ask tough questions - I need a beer break - later.

I think some years they should just show me an hour of commercials and skip the game.

If you are like me a close game in which the lead changes is the best.

I don't have tv any more - I know the commercials are all available on YouTube now, but I don't even feel motivated to do that.  But the dog one is cute.

Many people watch too much TV.  They put TV's in every room.  I only watch it in the family room and then not that much.  I don't like becoming hooked on a show.  I usually mute the ads.  I'm glad you enjoyed the dog.  I enjoy radio shows.

Do you remember, way back, an commercial for Nozema Shave Cream (is that even still around?) with a beautiful Swedish blonde who said, "Take it off, take it all off..."
Well, that blonde was the owner of the building where I had my first office for my company, Mega Books.Surprise! Surprise! My clients loved to drop by. Nowadays, I am a humble blogger. . .

Oh yes that was a hot ad.  Funny as we age the phrase becomes, "Put it on, Put it all back on".  That's an interesting story that you should post.

I like this dog and VW one but another another one that I didn't see until the game impressed me.  Clint Eastwood for Chrysler and Detroit making a come back in the second half was well done.
