a tramp, blue velvet and more

Just watched "Great Performances" on PBS.  We knew of Tony Bennett's recent album, "Duets II" so we had planned to watch.  It was really great that they played the whole songs since too often TV programs will cut the songs short.  I'm sure it will be re-broadcasted and maybe you can find it on-demand.

I was surprised that my wife and I agreed Lady Gaga did the best performance with Tony.  All the stars were good but Lady Gaga added fun energy to it.

There are clips on the internet too.  Here's three.

I enjoyed it (I've watched Gaga, I'll watch the other two later).  The Best Performance indeed.  I also got to listen to the lyrics for the first time.

I love Tony definitely looking for it on demand.....think this CD would be a great one to buy. I rarely buy music anymore but this is a one of a kind.

I think Tony said it was one of his favorite too with Gaga

It wasn't until I heard Lady Gaga in this duet, that I realised what an amazing voice she actually has - it's incredible, isn't it?

That doesn't surprise me since so much of her performances relies on  costume and dancing.  Her voice on this one is better than in some of her other more popular songs.
thanks

The lyrics in many of the "American Standards" are very romantic.  Poetry in motion - I think that's song too.
thanks

Ha but who would have ever thought when Tony Bennett was at his peak so long ago he would EVER sing with somebody that had blue green hair? W.C.C.

That's one reason I thought it was worth posting about.  Not only did I find most of the duets good music but also some of the combos were unexpected.  He also did one with Willie Nelson.
thanks

Tony Bennet can do no wrong in my book.  He's fantastic.  I got to see him live at the Hollywood Bowl several years ago.  He was awesome and inspiring.
Thanks for the reminder, jj

Man, that ToneBone Bennett is something, isn't he?! What is he now, about one hundred and eight? Maybe nine? Who can be sure? Yeah, I agree, the Gaga duet is sensational! The only thing that would have added to it, is if Tony had worn an aqua-tinted toupe as well.
