Santa Compliance

Having just finished undercover work regarding the elf-on-the-shelf conspiracy and hearing the Santa’s coming to town warning, I have a concern about the jolly old elf and his operation.

Don’t know how it works in other countries, but here in the States most of us get these boring mostly ignored privacy policy statements from our banks and insurance companies.

Have you read Santa’s privacy policy

See?

Me neither. I don’t think he has one. Based on common knowledge, he watches and collects data on our activities year round. I’m no lawyer but I have a few questions.

What information does he collect?

Does he protect my information?

Who does he disclose our information with? Easter Bunny? Tooth Fairy? My nosy Aunt Millie?

I have my suspicions about Aunt Millie. She always seems to know too much about me and I recall her making a trip way up north once.

Of one more thing - while researching that 12 days of Christmas song I found this version.  I like it and can relate to the rigging up the lights.

Santa always seemed like a suspect character to me.  All that inviting small kids to sit on his lap and snaking into people's homes.

Love the lego! Thanks for joining in BlogFestivus and hope to see you back here next year...different theme, same insanity. :-)

Next year??  Oh wait that's only a few weeks away.  Thanks for hosting BlogFestivus.  You are very good about visiting everyone that I  know is time consuming.

That might be why some kids are scared of him.  I wonder if he will be replaced someday by something like sponge-bob-square-pants.

Ooh, Santa's privacy policy. Never even thought about it! But since he usually uses his invasions of privacy to bring me nice things, I'll cut him some slack. :)

Haha - funny video ... yeah, good question - what does he do with this info? ... and just imagine if you could get your hands on it ...

... mmmm hang on, thinking about it now I know where he gets the money to afford all these presents and reindeer all around the world ...

Thankfully I used the 'opt-out' claus many years ago ...

Opt-out claus - that's fits so well I should edit my post and add it.  I'll leave it here as a gem to find in the comment section.
thanks

so essentially you are saying you can be bought?  Maybe we all can be.  thanks

Facebook still knows more about you than Santa.

lisleman said...

Yeah but they have a policy that no one reads except their lawyers.  Maybe there is a need for an elf lawyer.
thanks

Ah, I haven't seen the Twelve Pains of Christmas in forever! They used to play it on the radio.  Thanks for bringing it back to me :)

The whole idea of santa kind of creeps me out. Every time I'm tempted to tell Charlie that he needs to behave because Santa is watching I feel a little dirty about it.

I find the whole idea creepy.

At a basic level it is a lie but not a bad one.  Countless times I've been asked by our kids, nieces, nephews, "do you believe in Santa".  I say of course I do.  Now my definition of Santa is abstract.  To me it's the spirit and magic of the season.  Does magic give you the same feeling?  Probably not.  Ok, this is rationalizing but I think we all need things to wonder about and Santa is not a bad one.
thanks for sharing

Yes, I can totally appreciate that definition. That's what we're aiming for in our house, too - that santa represents the spirit of giving.

lisleman said...

Is it a sign of our lack of trust in each other?

Jene said...

Perhaps, but even when I was little (and trusting) I found the whole "sees you when you're sleeping/knows when you're awake" to be just a little disturbing.
